Re: rear window louvres
Does anyone make a Cragar aftermarket replica louver? They are too hard to find original. My wife told me she doesn't like the look of them since louvers date my car and make it look like the 80s...but that's the point of our cars, isn't it??? I had to laugh when she told me this. If you don't want to look like the 80s then don't drive a 3rd gen!!!

Re: rear window louvres
Having been in the thirdgen scene for quite some time now, it's been interesting to me to see that a good number of new generation thirdgenners want to make their cars look like caricatures of 80s "style". Kind of channeling this "joe dirt" perspective of history.
White letter tires, raked stance, louvers, etc. These things weren't even very popular back when the cars were new hence the relative rarity of the louvers and reason for gm dropping raised white letter tires as an option. A lot of people (myself included) thought they looked goofy even then.
I guess history has a funny way of manifesting itself into the public consciousness, I.e. if you believed the pop culture version of history you would think everyone smoked dope and listened to hendrix in the late 60s. Truth of the matter is most people didn't and most of those musicians became far more popular well afterward. It's kind of like cars.. people think 60s era muscle cars were all fast (most ran 14s) and they forget that they braked and handled like crap. And so folks take the most visible "trends" (after the fact) from a given point in history and assume that they were mainstream and define that generation even if they weren't. Just some thoughts.

Looks like the OP didn't really ask for opinions on whether other people like louvers or not, but it appears that's where this post is going.
Like it or not, I got a one piece set at Street Side Performance with a discount and free shipping! Pic are on this thread:

Re: rear window louvres
I have the same ones hanging in my garage right now! I'm missing a few of the clips though, but have enough to install....I'll be trying to sell them locally since they are aluminum and would be difficult and expensive to ship without them getting damaged.....maybe 3 separate boxes with alot of padding.
BTW, Astra-Hammond still sells louvers in either one piece or three piece. The one piece is ABS, and the three piece are like the ones posted earlier on the gray Camaro that was posted...but the side panels are different.
The ones I have hanging in my garage along with the ones KITT1983 has pictured above are from a company other than Crager or Astra...I've posted up what brand they were in another post. No longer in business.

As I said, I'd rather sell locally with these...besides KITT1983 seems to be the first to offer them to you so it wouldn't be right for me to barge in...

Re: rear window louvres
Hey buddy, just joined the forum today. Crager is the original company that made the rear louvers for the third generation F-bodies.Actually, I have an original set in my basement.....brand new, never used. The set I have is for the 86' model year with the third break light mounted at the top of the hatch. They will fit the camaro or firebird for that year.If you know anyone looking for a set I'd appreciate you giving them my username. I suppose if someone wanted them bad enough, they could still be put on weather the hatch had the high mounted break light or not.Just might look a little weird since there's no break light there in the opening.

I have a set for sale but is for the 86" model year. They are Crager Black Magic II louvers, brand new, never used and have the cut out for the high mounted break light. Please let me know if anyone is interested.

Re: rear window louvres
There were several manufacturers making louvers in the 80's and into the 90's. They started disappearing from the market in the late 90's. All the ones I see for sale now look pretty trashy. There were much better looking pieces sold back when these cars were new.
The set that was on my 83 Camaro originally, met it's end when one of the plastic hinges failed. At 75mph out on the plains with a stout headwind, all I heard was a loud ripping, crashing noise and looked back to see the bulk of the louvers flying through the air.
My 87 Iroc had factory louvers, but they were gone when I bought it. Replaced by some ABS plastic garbage that had been painted body color. They were noisy and tacky so I gave them away. I'd put the factory louvers back on if the opportunity presented itself, but none of the currently available garbage.

Re: rear window louvres
how rare(if u wanna call it that) are the one piece rear louvers? I have a set i don't think they were factory but i could be mistaken.
-
The previous owner (in pic) had the brackets in wrong spots/spacing reason there some bumps. I've since taken it off and its sitting in my garage

I am beginning to think about selling them (Perfect condition, have all hardware.. Took them off when i bought car, been in finished/clean garage) What do people think i could get from them if sold locally?
They're the Astra-Hammond 1 piece ABS set(#1101). New they go for any wheres from $220-$350 Plus the freight/oversized shipping fees because of being the one piece and being very large.

Classic Industries sells them as well on the website they are the three piece I think. They make them for any of the rear options you may have on your rear window.
