Goodmark steel hood
Any of you folks bought one of these? A company called Restoration Perfomance has a reproduction IROC steel hood for $224. It is made by Goodmark which has a pretty good selection of fiberglass hoods, but I prefer steel. Any feedback is appreciated.

I did not know Goodmark had any fiberglass hoods. At least when I was a dealer for them I did not see any.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
I also have a Goodmark 2in. steel cowl hood. Really like it but feel I'm the only one here that has a fitment issu. I cant get the hood latch to drop enough to allow the front of the hood to close with out leaving a 3/8 gap. Maybe Its time to do some grinding on the latch bolt "slides" so it will drop some. Here's what I'm talking about.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
OK, I spent the last 2 hours working on dropping the latch ( some precision grinding) and fixed the problem. Sits allot nicer now with out that large gap. Its about 1/8 and I can live with that. I have been wanting to do that for soooo long now. Done.

I had the same problem as Ronus but what I did was put washers under the center of the nose piece to raise it to the hood.Whatever works.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
I've got the factory reproduction steel hood with the hood louver spots, I'm guessing its the same hood you're asking about. Fits fine, a little lighter than stock so I imagine it would dent easier. Hopefully I'll never have to find out. Took a loooooooooong time to get (months), Goodmark has next to nothing in stock.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
im also looking to buy a cowl hood. summit has a goodmark hood and a "oer" hood. they both appear to be the same, but the goodmark hood is more expensive. does anyone know if there is any difference in quality or styling between the two?

Re: Goodmark steel hood
the only downside to the goodmark hood is the engine is offset to the passinger side so the air breather on the non tpi cars isn't centered which means you have to use a small air breather if it sticks into the hood.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
i was wondering that myself, i tried looking around for pictures online but couldent find anything. i like the way the goodmark hood has the cutout for the air filter. i was also checking out vfn's website and saw that they had an L-88 hood for our cars, found a few pics online of camaros with the hood, they look pretty agressive. i like the fact that its kind of unique, dont see many third gens with the L-88 hood.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
PS. I run the hood pins because I like the way they go with the old school/1/4mile look I'm aiming for. It also gives me piece of mind. I had a incident with a hood flying open on the highway once.

Re: Goodmark steel hood
The only flaw I see IMO is the screen in the cowl opening at the base of the hood. Cowl induction works in two ways ,one is the cool air that forms at the base of the windshield in a swirling fashion and is drawn into the cowl opening while the second way is the intake pulling cool air into the TBI/Carb.using the cowl. The screen is restrictive but I can put my hand against the screen and feel the pull of air coming from the filter lid. You can really hear it sucking through the top of the element creating a steady stream of cool air. One of our members has this hood and has cut the screen out. I'm OK with what I have.
