Drag Radial Tire suggestions
Hi all
After my latest modifications my BF Goodrich Drag Radials are no longer able to hook up even at the drag strip.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with the Hoosier or Nitto drag radials VS the BF Goodrich G-Force drag radials? Which ones hooked up better for you?
PS I don't care which last longer of the three. I'm purely looking for traction.

I never ran Nitto so I'm not sure what its comparable to so I'm unsure if the Toyo would be any better than what I already have. I've only experienced a Bias-Ply Mickey Thompson and the BF Goodrich tires.

I used to love my Nitto's when my car was closer to stock,but.......after the h/c/i and convertor swap it's gotten pretty hard to hook up without running a full tank of gas. I'm going to get my rear GTA's widened to see if that helps. I don't think the 245's are wide enough anymore lol

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
Nitto makes an AMAZING street tire. When I got the car it had near bald nittos on the back and it still hooked up well in the dry with the car being stock and having a 5speed. I now have sumitomo's on the rear and notice very little difference between brand new all season tires vs. the Nitto street tires. I would assume their drag radials are great tires too. Have you checked out Falken?

Hoosiers generally grip the most but are mostly a radial slick..not for highway use..they wont last long at alll.
I dont think Nitto NT05R's are available in 15 yet but i'd have to check since there were rumors of them looking to make one.

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
my suspension isnt worked over much tho. just stiff shocks/springs and LCA's/brackets. It may hook better with more work but the 555r's in my experience wouldnt grip no matter what pressure or burnout length. THe NT05R's I can hook at 24-26psi

A bit of weight in the back end helps a lot, these cars are quite light back there.

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
Thats weird, my 555R's didnt hook great at all in that same size with my LS1 car. Only got down to low 1.8 60's. Would not take a full stall launch and I only had a 3200 stall converter and 2.73's. I switched to the new style NT05R's in same size and difference was night and day. Immediately got down to the high 1.6's low 1.7's. Added 3.73 gears and went 1.66 so far but they are now worn down after 9-10K miles I honestly didnt expect them to last beyond 3k miles with them feeling so soft.
How much power you have? BFG's are good radials unless they are old/bald. What size rim, assuming a 15"x8"? If so best bang for your buck is gonna be Mickey or M&H. They have good radials but they wont last long on the street. Theres guys in the 7's and 8's on those 275 type radials.
Hoosiers generally grip the most but are mostly a radial slick..not for highway use..they wont last long at alll.

Anyway I went for the MT I no longer have any traction issues. I get an instant launch with no tire spins when I mash pedal to the floorboard at the track.
A friend of mine says MT drag tires dry rot in 2 years if anyone is using this thread as a guide. I don't know if any of you all that have MT have had this problem.

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
I'm looking buying drag radials. I'm looking to reduce 1/4 mile times not increase them. Granted if I got better traction at the start I might get better 60 foot times but the extra weight may slow me down enough on the full 1/4 mile so it may turn out to be a wash. Anyway I'm not going to make a bracket to secure 100 lb chunk of lead in my car. I'd rather just buy sticker tires.

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
Nitto's are great for street or strip...I ran the 555r's in a 315 on my ex's 00' WS6 m6. I think my best 60' was either a 1.6 or a 1.7 and best 1/4 time was 11.99 @ 122mph....I know that the BFG's are softer than the 555's not sure about the TQ's, but I heard good stuff about them....(on a side note...Nitto's are made by Toyo)...The NT05R's are sticky from what I here......MT's are one of the best for the track, but they suck on the street in the rain....

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
I have no problems hooking on 255/50/16 MT Drag Radials. Stock size and they fit great on a stock wheel. I would run 15" wheels but my brakes won't clear them. I think there is a pattern developing here. Try some Mickey Thompsons and you won't be dissapointed. I run mine at around 18-20 psi and a short burnout is all I need for my car to hook stalling at 3000 rpm with bone stock suspension.

I've got BFG's but I'm not overly impressed with them. I'd agree with the concensus developing on here. MT's or the Nitto 05R's.

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
Excellent thats close enough. The one inch width difference from a 275 to a 255/50/16 won't make much difference. My car has less power than yours too. Now I won't have to buy a new set of wheels for some super wide tires and keep the same diameter tire.
I have an extra set of rear factory wheels. I just change the wheels out when I go to the track

Re: Drag Radial Tire suggestions
I agree with about not going enough. I got one of those traveling jobs so unfortunately getting over to Gateway drag strip isn't always possible when I want to. 2 to 3 years would be the maximum time they would last for me even with limited free time.
