Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
Yeah I do.
When I 1st built my camaro 10 years ago I bought a set of yoko avids, 235/60-15 for front and 255/60-15 for rear.
Not a bad street tire at all. The rear tires on mine only lasted 1.5 years but that was all my doings with burn outs and laying drag on street and drag racing at the track. I would say I got about 6-7K miles out of them. Replaced rears with Nitto 555R 275/60-15 drag radials
The 10 year old yoko avids are STILL on the front of my car and just now starting to get down to the wear bars. I put an avg of about 6K miles a year on mine, but she did sit for a year with a broke rear end while I saved for a ford 9".
So around 50K miles on the front tires
Here's a few pictures
Left to right
April 2004 1st got the yoko avids
Sept. 2005
Oct. 2005 rears was worn almost slick so I had to give them a hot rodder's send off

One last picture. This one July 2009. If you look at the front tire you can make out the Yokohama Avid lettering. Same front tires that was installed in 2004.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
I took a good look for them and could find nothing that would be decent in a 15in.
Yokohoma's site only has two tires listed that would fit a 15in. wheel and they are thin starting at 215/60r15.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
Yeah I'm not sure if yokohama still makes them or not.
I'm looking through online and in a 235/50-15 what I'm seeing is..
Cooper cobra
BFG TA
Pirelli P600
M/T sportsman S/T
M/T ET street
Mastercraft Avenger
M&H racemaster
Coker Pro-trac
Here's the only 15" rim yokohama tires I can find now

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
The Cobras, M/T's, Mastercraft Avenger ,Dick Cepek and others are all affiliated with Cooper Tire.
Some on here don't like the Cobras but my experience has been different .They must have made some changes because I've been running them for over 8 years now and love everything about them, for a street tire. Granted I do live in an area that does not get snow so I cant really say how "any" tire is going to act there.
My next choice would be M/T sportsman S/T , then the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500's.
All my tires are ran black side out.

I've had Cobra's for about as long as Ron, also live where there is no snow and had excellent results with them... I have 245 60 15's all around, but here soon will be switching to Ron's 235 and 255 60 15's for a slight rake... Ron's car looks tight with that setup!

Since others have posted photos, here's mine.
I think these two show the tire/wheel combo well.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
Ron, thanks for showing us what looks great!
Other tidbits...
Ron's wheels are 15x7 up front and 15x8 in back
Early stock tire size was 215 65 15, but later
235 60 15 was used for 15" rims and is same height...
With Ron's setup (235/60/15-stock height) up front and (255/60/15) in rear, the rear is about .9 inches taller... also keep in mind the rear wheel is an inch wider than the stock 15x7...
And the Cobra tires come with white writing on one side, so you can choose to show them, or the dark side

I really like the BFG Radial TA's. I have them on my 69 camaro. My 92 has 16" wheels.
I have 225/60r15 on the front and 275/60r15 on the rear but i'm going to replace the rears with 245/60r15.
Also put the BFG Radial TA's on my mom's 80 vette. 225/70r15. The noticeably improved the ride quality for her over the Goodyears that were on there. Many tires in that size used to be made for large vehicles like full size vans so a light car like a vette would have a hard ride.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
I've never ran the Yoko's, but I run BFG's on all my 15" wheels. I love them, never had trouble in the rain or in the curvy mtn roads with them. I live very close to the Tail of the Dragon, and put them through their paces, hard. I got 50k miles out of my last set on a 93 GMC C1500 LWB, 4.3 5spd. I think that is pretty good for a truck, being used as a truck and drove hard in mtn curves.

Just so you guys know I'm looking at the Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T's.
I've had no problems with the Cobras but really like what the M/T's have to offer including the Thompsons reputation and the fact there made in the U.S.A.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
Ron I read that MT and Cobra's are made in the same factory...
Then I found that in 2003 Cooper purchased Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels.
The tread is very similar... you may be paying a lot more $$$ for the name... Just FYI...

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
Your right.
Cooper is HUGE and is buying up a lot of brands.
I'm going to talk to a tech at M/T named Mike and find out what he knows.
I've searched for awhile now and cant find any negative reviews on the tire so far.
Some even say they hook nice for a street tire.
If there using the same "exact" compound as the Cobra I would really be surprised. But who knows with these company's.......
All in all I think the Cobras have the nicest black wall as far as looks go for me. The Thompsons S/T has a very plain black wall.

I have the Yokohama AVID H4S 15 on my 85 Trans Am. I really like them, Good Performance and Very smooth ride out of all the other tires I had on this car. 15 Inch Tires are not that easy to get anymore, not that big selection as it used to be.

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
My tire dealer said that the Yokohama AVID H4S have been discontinued. Last year I got a flat on one of my Yokohama AVID H4S 15 from a puncture on the sidewall, un-repairable. I took to the internet and found at tire shop in Oregon/Utah something Like that and bought another set.
Search the internet for a dealer that my have some left.
Depending on how original you want your car, their is a tire company that reproduces the Original Good Year Eagle GT tires that these cars came with:
www.kelseytire.com
They are Pricey, but Originality looks great for a car show for points. I am considering this option for another set of rims myself.
Good Luck !

Re: Anyone use Yokohama avid 15 inch tires?
I have this posted in my Mickey Thompson S/T thread but said I would call.
OK,
I just got off of the phone with a M/T tech (Mike)and I asked him several questions.
= M/T has two plants and both are here in the U.S.A.
= M/T s plants produce M/T tires as they always have.
= Cooper has plants all over the world and Cobras are produced in a few of those sites.
= The compound in the M/T S/Ts and Cobra are different.
= M/T has incorporated a little Strip compound into the S/T.
