Turn One flow restrictor power steering pump.

I've had a Turn One flow restrictor for the power steering pump installed for about a month and I love it. I have a Formula 350 with WS6 package. All my suspension pieces and power steering parts where fine on the car but I still felt that the steering had way too little feedback at highway speeds. I talked to my local performance shop they suggested flow restriction but it would have to be made by another speed shop they work with that did more advance machining than they did. Well, I was in no mood to pay two speed shops to get one part so I declined. I looked up on the net for what the speed shop described and I came across Turn One. The flow restrictor did exactly what they said it would do and now I can actually feel whats going on when I turn the wheels. That over assisted turn the steering wheel with my pinky finger is gone at all speeds. The steering feel is now close to what a modern car feels like.
I've had no problems with the modification it was easy to do and it cost $35 + shipping. The part number on their website SKU PN1115.
So if you know your parts are good but hate the feel this is a much cheaper route than a new or rebuilt steering gear box with a large T-bar size and heavy valving.

Re: Turn One flow restrictor power steering pump.

Yes, I have.
Since my last post, I decided to go with even heavier steering. The restrictor made it heavier but just not enough for my tastes. I prefer the heavy steering when I'm driving like a moron on remote hilly country roads and especially when I'm doing my flying mile racing. I told them to make it 25% heavier. I overshot a bit on effort amount. For most people, I would recommend no more than 15% increase. I spoke with them they could tell me how many inch pounds it would be to turn if I have a stock pump but I had a hard time imagining what that would actually feel like in my hands so I guesstimated 25%.
Anyway, I got it back in 3 weeks. It came with a rebuilt diagnostic test sheet which I had no clue how to read. The box works fine. I just wish they would have painted the case for the money I spent instead of what looked like heavy wash tank cleaning.

Re: Turn One flow restrictor power steering pump.

Please describe this flow restrictor for me. Is it a one-piece brass fitting that you screw into the pump, or does it also have a spring-loaded plunger and come with a flow control valve with a groove cut into the end?

The reason I'm asking, is because I helped develop a 'droop flow' speed sensitive steering kit for the P-pump way back in 1991 when I was a co-op student at headquarters GM Saginaw Division in Saginaw, Michigan. I have to wonder is Turn One is now marketing it. If so, very cool.

I still have the prototype installed in my own power steering pump here in my '84 Trans Am. We created it for GM Holden. It works great.

I used the factory hose. I assume 88's are metric?

Re: Turn One flow restrictor power steering pump.

Do you have picture of the turnone pump mounted in the car? I just purchased their new box and thinking I want their pump too but want to see how it fixes with factory accessory bracket. Thanks
