What purpose does this serve?

Just when i think I've seen just about everything thirdgen related (or at least heard about it) I go to a local junkyard and find this laying in the back of the yard in a pile of replacement Chevy, Pontiac & Ford bumpers. I known it isn't licensed GM because there were two of them and the other one still had a sticker on it with a company name & number in Florida but I grabed the one without the sticker. When I first saw it I thought a replacement nose for a dirt track car then thought a nose cover for our cars to protect from bugs and rocks, then I thought maybe a mold for making fiberglass replacements. So I don't know what its use is. Could anyone tell me exatly what the purpose/funtion of this is? I have kinda test fit it on my car but the little rubber stoppers and the fact I've done the BMW headlight mod to my car prevent it from easily setting in place. Other than the rubber stoppers, it also has two bungie straps installed on the bottom and in the yard both of them appeared to be clear, but it has a slight tint/smoked look to it. Anyone ever seen one of these in use or advertised?

I remember seeing those for sale 20+ years ago. It's just a lexan car bra. Pretty cool find though.

Ok...

Kind of a neat idea... I remember a few years back there was someone that had put suran-wrap on their front bumper to go to a show, it was a 5 hour drive on the highway... When he pealed it off there was dull marks from where the suranwrap did not stick, like in the pockets and so-on. He thinks that as he drove a little dust got under the wrap and it swirled around so much it scuffed his paint... Seemed bizarre to me but there it was...

I would be worried that everywhere the little bumpers were that there would be marks in the paint after a trip. I see it as being a car-show keep the bugs off the front of my car type thing...

It is a way cool idea...

I've owned a few pickups that have had the plastic shield on the front of the hood and the bumpers always scuff the paint.
