Engine restore snake oil???

Hey all so got into a discussion about the product Engine Restore and if it works or if it is snake oil. I used it 20-25 years ago and my Olds 350 and the oil burning stopped and ran smother. So my question is, has anyone here used it, if so what were your results?

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

I think the main problem with Restore is that you have to put it in with every oil change. That's what makes it a band-aid.

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

Thanks for the replies, I figured the same thing. My 85 has a bad valve seal (I hope is all) and I get the natorious blue "puff" when I fire her up. Not sure if Engine Restore would help that and the season is just about over... I just don't don't want to add any unneeded stress on the oil system, or anything else for that matter.

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

Not snake oil per say, but I wouldn't put it in an engine unless it was going to be scrapped for a new engine soon or pulled and rebuilt.

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

I'm on the fence with this, but better to have it " puff" than "knock"!!!

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

It's a band aid to string you along until you can afford to patch the problem or replace the car if you are tight financially. It doesn't fix anything.

It does exactly what you want it to do. Which is more than can be said about most patch products

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

I bought my car with 89,000 on it.
Changed over to Mobil 1 Extended Performance and within a year the infamous puff of smoke on initial start up was gone.

I don't know if others have had the same experience but it worked for me.

Re: Engine restore snake oil???

STP oil treatment with Chevron dino oil in my 86 each oil change seems to help my oem 138,000 Mile TPI and adds zddp to the mix.. Snake Oil or not it works for me.. But as mentioned in the post above we all have our own trade secrets..
