Classic industries carpet

Recently I bought a kit for the passenger area for my 91 bird, theirs says is direct fit, molded, etc..
I ordered black, and the color is really nice, the carpet feels nice and soft.
The bad part is, if just doesn't fit. The only place it directly fits is in a garbage can.
I expected to have a few excess inches, maybe bolt holes not drilled, maybe stiff until it setlles and opens..but this was nowhere close. The hole for the console and shifter was about a foot long. I had to cut another good foot and half to clear the console area..it was also was not molded, at all, and the foot lads are way off. Bolt holes not drilled.. I had to cut two feet off the back as well, the part that goes under the top back seat.

If this wasn't my DD and I didn't need to get my interior baxk together, this would get returned in a heartbeat.

Just a heads up, do not use classic industries carpet!

Re: Classic industries carpet

I think there were only 2 carpet makers for the car, and I think a few years back, 1 bought out the other one... ACC and ASC (foggy memory)... sorry about your experience, I think Rock Auto has better prices on it than Classic and probably 1AAuto (sponsor here), though it may be the same manufacture...

Side note, I got a 334 kit waiting to go in my 305 TPI with Astro T5 Trans

This stuff was OER? I think I've also seen them produce window and trim gaskets and other misc things, which everyone says is total trash as well. Wish I woulda known it was this brand before ordering.
I sent an email to classic industries letting them know whats up; doubt anything will happen from it other than "sorry to hear that", but worth a shot.

Sweet dude! What cam are ya gonna run? I just toasted my 334, but she was injured pretty bad from the previous owner.

Yeah, OER, Original Equipment Reproduction...
I've never had good luck with Classic... I got a coupon in the mail for 15% off, and after placing my order, the numbers were wrong, and they told me the items had already been discounted (from the catalog that I had sitting in my house for a year)... so what was the point of my 15% coupon? I canceled most of the order, ordered some 91 Firebird headlight bezels... they sent me 1 shiny and 1 dull one, so I sent them both back and asked them to make them match shiny or dull, but not both...

As for the 334, I got TrickFlow Aluminum 175 Heads, and I'm looking at the Comp Cams XFI 260, heads are good for .6 lift, the cam is .57...

Excellent quality control there.. I should also mention, this stuff has no rubber backing. I'm slicing and dicing now to make it work-temporarily..it will get redone with a different brand in the future.

Man, that's gonna be wicked! I threw a 272/272 484/484 in mine (meant to order a different one, accidentally put that in my cart, ha-ha!), it was nice, but felt like something with longer duration would have suited better with the extra stroke.

Here's a few pics though.

Half the insulation peeled from the carpet just getting it in the car..

Can also see how I had to slice and dice to make it actually touch the floor. passenger side was too short, and needed several relief cuts so that it would touch floor..luckily I have several feet of extra that I can patch in..
Also luckily enough, I install tint and vinyl professionally, so I'm good at hiding seams!

Two heel pads..both in the wrong place..
Only reason I'm still putting it in is, well, its better than just bare metal and heat/noise deadening material! Could have just went to home depot and bought the same stuff for much less, and would have looked just the same in the end.
Their customer service has been very quick to reply, though, and is being helpful, I'll give them that!

Re: Classic industries carpet

I just ordered a complete carpet from Stock Interiors. It came in an ACC box. I hope I have a better experience than you are currently having. Sorry you are having to go through this, and spending your hard earned money on complete junk. I would be made too!!!

Everywhere I'm seeing online looks like acc is a good one, but hopefully you don't end up with it either!

Just got it all in, its definitely a 5 ft job, but its better than bare metal.

Update on the situation, I've been emailing classic industries, sent them all the pics in the thread (actually just a link to the thread), and they arent sure what's up, they will be contacting the manufacturer to see what happened, but are issuing a full refund. They do stand behind their products, and their customer service has been excellent.

Re: Classic industries carpet

Wow,it appears they sent the wrong carpetyou should have never had to cut that much for the console.Did you let the carpet relax overnight in a worm area?
I got my carpet from them(ACC with mass backing) didn't look anything like that.Classic will no doubt take care of your issue, their a pretty good outfit.
Good Luck Dixie.

It says on the box its for an 85-92 camaro/firebird, so not sure there. Yeah, I let it sit out opened up in my shop overnight, with a space heater near it, it is just poor quality product.
How did the acc fit? That may be who I go with for when I put good carpet in this thing.

Re: Classic industries carpet

Fit really good, had some overhang on the sides that trimmed easily and covered with the door sills, fit great from front to back.I did get the set that had the shifter hole cutout.Don't know if that had anything to do with the fit but it's a good place to start.

Re: Classic industries carpet

There are options for the carpet that most places won't tell you about. They advertise the cheap stuff and that's what you get.
Call ACC and order the rubber backed carpet w insulation and the price will reflect that.

Re: Classic industries carpet

Out of curiosity, I checked my receipts and it turns out I didn't buy the carpet from Classic after all, I got it from 1A. I thought I purchased my entire interior from them,I got everything but that.
TTop's right about the options not being mentioned by these suppliers, you have to ask for the Mass Rubber Backing.

This was a good price 5yrs ago,I just checked 1A and the prices are up.
One good thing about 1A is they have Free Shipping all the time.

Re: Classic industries carpet

Its all acc carpet from what I understand. Doesn't matter where you get it. You have to cut where it goes under the hvac stuff in order for it to slide forward where it is supposed to be. That may explain why you had so much to the rear. Then cut hole bigger for e brake. I let mine sit in car for a day or so and it molded back to the floor.

Yep, classic called me today and said that, I didn't know either. I cut lots of that out too, it slid forward to where it was sposed to be on the driver's side, but passenger side was still too short. I didn't start cutting (other than the center console area) till I had it fully in place, so all the excess from the back was there after I had it slid forward.
