Re: Strut tower brace?

For a freaking sweet strut tower brace I used the same style carried by Hawks the eldebrock 3 point it clears the air cleaner on my 91 tbi and my wife's 87 ta 4bbl the rectangular shap fits tight under the hood and makes for much stiffer steering it says for tpi but it's a perfect fit don't expect to change your air cleaner without removing the a few bolts.

Re: Strut tower brace?

If you haven't purchased and installed a wonderbar yet, I would do that BEFORE the strut tower brace.

http://www.top-downsolutions.com/ste...-firebird-%28a

They're cheap ($55) and members have reported more improvements with the wonderbar than with a strut tower brace. I have both on my car.

Thanks for posting that Formula-Finatic. I didn't know the Hawks unit would fit the TBI and Carbed vehicles. Most units marked for TPI will not.

But to clarify, if you want the old Edelbrock design, that IS the unit that QA1 is selling today. It's my understanding that QA1 bought those out from Edelbrock.

Re: Strut tower brace?

Before the STB, I'd suggest after market strut mounts to eliminate flex there first. Also be aware that the Wonderbar was GM's Bandaid for the IROC's 16" wheels and a weak steering box area. It's not, however, a performance part. Unless there's a crack in the box area, I doubt that most people in a blind test could tell if a Wonderbar was installed or not. Still a worthwhile investment.

Much more about the OE Wonderbar below if you're interested:
