Grant steering wheels
I bought a Grant challenger steering wheel for my 84 Z28. I got the chrome one and the chevy bowtie horn button. I think it looks great. Lately the allen wrench bolts that are on the face have begun to rust. I contacted Grant to ask about how to get the bolts so I dont have to replace the entire steering wheel.
This is the email response form Grant:
We do not sell the bolts by themselves. You would need topurchase the entire wheel again.
Thank You,
Ferdinand
WTF, I am going to go to Home depot and buy some similar bolts. I refuse to spend 60-80 dollars to replace the entire steering wheel. NO customer service. FYI.

Re: Grant steering wheels
personally not a fan of grant wheels, yet somehow ive ended up with 3 of them. Gave one away when i replaced it with a factory wheel on my iroc, one is sitting in the garage, and the other is on my 88 currently, but is beginning to have the same rusting issue.
local ace hardware store recently got a new "chrome hardware" section with chrome bolts, screws, nuts, ect... figured I might give them a try.

Hmm, My 2nd gen Camaro has a woodgrain gauge bezel. I like it, but I'm not sure if I would want anymore in that car. Not sure how I feel on woodgrain in 3rd gens.

not a fan..... my friend has a wood grain wheel in his '67 rs/ss but it is more of a dark oak color, not obnoxiously bright rosewood

Re: Grant steering wheels
That wood grain wheel looks fantastic. It doesnt fit our cars, however. It belongs in a classic muscle car or a boat or something.
Also as far as the bolts
1. Ace hardware - great bolt selections
2. Plastidip
3. Paint
4. Gun oil or even WD40.
Some combination of one or all of the above. Gun oil is meant to simultaneously prevent machined metal from corroding AND lubricate it. WD40 will prevent it from corroding but i hate the smell and gun oil has a thicker texture and less odor to it that will stay on it better, longer. Just an idea. Note: gun oil is going to prevent paint/plastidip/etc from adhering.

Re: Grant steering wheels
Recently put a Grant wheel in my firebird. After adding the billet spacers & all the pieces, I had a decent amount of money in it. Definitely not impressed with the wheel... it looks nice but it is thin aluminum, I can flex it with my hands.

Re: Grant steering wheels
they make alot of them in mexico now.
some of the older made wheels (same styles as the new ones)
just the older ones made in italy. (to me a better wheel)
my wheel below
the newer stuff from grant below
why would they move to mexico?
are they made in 2 diff places at the same time? could be... i say older ones. i could be wrong. i will still say the italy wheels are better.
mine(top) came off a grant disply from SEMA. $20.. install kit also SEMA $10 not from grant.. its all billet with steel dustcover 100% bolt in.
also the ring around button is also billet..got 2 of them one polished and 1 in black ..in pic. horn button is grant.. they gave that to me with my $20 wheel

Re: Grant steering wheels
and on a side note:
when installing a grant wheel kit. and you run into the neck dust cover to long.. you space the cover away from the steering housing by placing the right thickness of shims under the wheel lug. the silver thing.. in the below pic.(under dust bonet ontop of lug) ya dont have to cut anything down....
this above shot shows all parts needed to install into a 91/92 camaro
airbag removed... this set up puts the wheel in the same place as the stock wheel with a small gap.dust cover and steering shaft(less then 1/16) same as stock set up...
total for this wheel and install...cost under $45
i like the billet rings. it adds a better look to the wheel. and offsets the button..adding a nice Bling! to it..
taking the polished ring and having it black anodized to add a bit more depth to it...
ya have to stay one step ahead...

Re: Grant steering wheels
if ya shop you can always save money.. never settle..get what ya want!
get the car set up the way you want. it takes time..(sucks) but in the end
it's kewl to have what you want...
just checked ebay and found this add under $9 for a grant knock off,,(all grant wheel parts fit..horn/install kits and 5 bolt..
so if you have a grant now..5 bolt (face) this is a drop in replacment shipped under $25
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PILOT-STEERING-WHEEL-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-CORVETTE-IMPALA-/160476726160?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item255d288390&vxp=mtr
i say pick up the ebay looka alike and pop it in... if its somthing ya like the looks of (good looking wheel)
your out $25 and have a new leather(what the add list) and your fixed. then sell off your old grant for $10 shipped..somthing like that.
on another side note:
the above wheel on ebay. also has horn buttons in the wheel. this is a kewl way to hide the NOS/Line lock/trans brake/or what ever.
as you use the standard horn button to work the horn..
at that price im going to order one just to keep around..

Re: Grant steering wheels
i have seen Grant wheels flex also....mexico
but for under $25 and a 5 bolt face...that falls inplace of a grant. its just a matter of time before garnt wheels are made in China!
all wheels have a bit of give/flex to them...if not with airbag.
