ordered a 5" bolt on cowl hood. back on the 7th(july) was told it would be 3 weeks before shipping. its on its way as of the 29th (july)
$540 with shipping total came to $730.. tracking info shows it will be too my door on the 5th of Aug..
nothing wrong with my 3" cowl... still like it.. just going to be a wall art now...

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

I have always been a fan of their 2" cowl hood how it extends closer to the windshield.
Let us know how the shipping, fit and finish are.

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

spent time looking for a hood that was made like the one I have now.(3" tall) wanted more room.
bolt on
open on the underside.
framed only on the outer edge underside for the bolt on.
and laid back toward the window.
5 to 6" tall
will do a post on fit & finish.
as long as there is no damage when they deliver it. have to open inspect before I sign for it..

RamIt, I've always loved the 2" Glasstek as well. Fave aftermarket hood. ...still not as good as functional louvers though!!!!

...but you know...if you need the clearance.

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

There was some trimming and cutting involved... they leave a three-quarter inch lip on 3 sides of the hood. For shipping..
trimming was easy.. You also have to cut the hole out for the hood latch.. For the bolt on Hood..
This Hood weighs about 12 pounds less than my other fiberglass Hood..

there was some clean up of resin runs under the hood. that was easy with a razor blade came right off.

wanted the under side to look as good as the top.. the top is Perfect. just needs a scuff prep and paint

they use 5/16 x18 bolts for all the bolts on the hood so ya have to open up some of the parts to get them to fit..the bolts.. it looks fantastic I always wanted a 5" bolt cowl hood. but back in 92 all I could get was a 3" bolt on..
pics tonight

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

How thick was the leading edge where it meets the bumper?
If thick, was it hard to thin back down?

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

out of the box.. lip over hang is 3/4" inch if you look at the side pic I posted its about the same.
but trims right off. thick is under 1/16 of a inch..

cover with masking tape..mark it and use cut off wheel. cuts like butter. finish to your liking by hand. I start with 80gt.
to start then finish with 400. took about 30 min. took it down to match my other hood (about a 1/8 inch lip in front)
the fit to the front bumper is spot on with under a 1/16 inch gap..the fist bolt on..lol

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

this is a shot of my other hood. nice fit. I think the glasstek is going to fit even better when fit all the way.. the gap on the front of this hood (the 3" cowl) is nice but the 5" hood is going to be better

with the hood latched and sitting on the bump stops
I have a fantastic less then 1/16" gap at the front of the hood.=not sitting on the front bumper. fitting better then the GM hoods.
now off to paint. and pinstriping..

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

you made a GREAT choice going with the Glasstek hood. That is actually my red camaro posted up in post #2 byRamIt. I had that hood put on the car in 2004 or so. I don't remember what it weight in at, but the quality was amazing (and it still is) after many years it has been great. I got it over a Harwood on the advice of my Painter, who showed me some of the Glasstek hoods on his pure built drag cars.. and I like the look of the longer lip above the cowl.

Ironically, for the first time in about 7 years.. I took the hood off the car JUST LAST NIGHT ! strange coincidence. I took the hood off so it is not in the way, and does not get accidentally opened/damaged into my garage ceiling rafter beams, while the car is jacked up 2 feet in the air next week when I pull my current (exploded) transmission.

Mine is a bolt on as well. used stock hinges, but painted them up. Decided to put the "popper' hood spring on the font nose of the car instead of mounting it on the underside of the hood as I did not want it to cause stress or crack the fiberglass in that area of the hood. many years later, it has worked perfectly. The quality and fitment of the hood is dead-on perfect. glad you got one, the 5" will go way better with your car for sure.

Re: Glasstech. (ontime)

thanks guys.. I like the hood too..
the way it fits is fantastic.
the old hood will be a wall hanger..

looking at the new copo Camaros. they have some trick grafix on the hoods. working with a custom shop in town. see what we can come up with for the side of the cowl..to add to it after the paint.

as for the hood hinges. I'm looking at getting a set chrome plated. ($400/$500) ballpark..
as nobody making a billet set.. have a guy who is doing some alum sheet metal work form me. looking into making a set..

the nice thing now is I don't have to think about keeping the intake under 12" tall...
