I think it very well may be a collectors item....key word, collector! Easy- you may not like RS or may look past them.......but to somebody else, they might love the RS.....just like i have a thing for the 86 irocs.......dont know why just do....but yeah i think it very well may be a collector car, and go ahead and mod it if you please, just keep the stock stuff...

Any v8 ragtop is going to have some degree of collectibility... likely more so than it's hardtop/t-top counterparts if all other things are equal. Will it be the Yenko of the future? Nope... but they sure do have a strong appeal!

Don't keep it stock in hopes of getting a big investment return later down the road......
MOST, collectors are looking for the Z28 Convertible or 1990 IROC Convertible, most aren't looking for the RS convertible.....
Plus they are still common cars.......it's not you have to go looking all over the US to find one.....

If it was low mileage, then maybe. But ya never know. If too many people think "Ah its just an RS" and then mod and pound the hell out of it and you have a mint original, it might be harder to find a mint original RS some day since everyone trys to keep the Z28s clean.
But I wouldn't count on it being worth a ton any time soon.

AFAIK, there are very few collectible 3rd gens. They made so many of them that it is going to be a while before they become scarce.
The guy who ran the Camaro/Firebird operation at GM, Scott Settlemeier I think, has said that of all the 3rd gen Camaros, he thinks the Irocs will be the desirable ones once people look on our cars as collectible.
IMHO, most of us buy 3rd gens because we love they way they look and handle. We want a car that we love to DRIVE. Thus collectibility MUST take second spot in our reasons for buying. I know it does for me. If I had some rare turbo TA or 1LE Iroc I would be afraid to drive it in case someone ran a red light and totalled it out from under me
So I drive a Sport Coupe. The thing is loaded from the factory with almost every option and I've built the engine and drivetrain to make it go better than average. I love to drive the car and share it by driving my friends around on cruises. To me that's what it is ALL about

i agree with billy...
make it enjoyable..... to me, that means somthing like a LT1/T56 combo, suspension mods, ect...
i can bearly stand the car being as slow as it is now... i say mod the cr ap out of it....
and to thoes saying they arnt rare.... it took me 2 1/2 months of SOLID searching and calling to find a nice one...

It took me about 4-5 months to find a convertible worth buying, they are pretty hard to come by, whether its because there are few left or people just aren't selling them. I wouldn't say they are becoming super collectible but they will be a hot commodity(sp?) because they are verts. I am mildly modding mine to the way I want it to be.
I say make it what you want and enjoy it.
