Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
Hello. I cant seem to find any pictures of a firebird with a flaming bird hood decal on a power bulge hood. I'm thinking about putting an 81 decal on my firebird, but I am concerned that the bulge will distort the bird and make it look dumb. See decal below.
What do you guys think?

Heres one on a 4th gen t/a hood. It may give you an idea how it will look over the hood bulges.

Check out the hood bird decal on the 2ndgen version of the Power Bulge hood(1980-ish). The decal was designed to incorporate the bulge.

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
I would like to make a suggestion.
The 3rd Gen Power Bulge hood, i don't think really lends itself to a "full hood" decal.
While i agree with you that the smaller, "on the bulge" graphic is dorky-looking, in my opinion, full sized graphics, which make the hood decal the focal point of the car are a trapping of the Second Gen era and do not carry over well onto Third Gens. I have genuine distaste for aftermarket body kits/mods/or graphics that are designed to make a 3rd Gen pay homage to 2nd Gens - as if to say the Burt Reynolds movie inspired iconic status of 2nd Gens shall over-ride any and all mechanical and aesthetic virtues of 3rd Gens.
Having said that, here is my suggestion. Because the creases and contours of a Power Bulge hood may not lend itself to an existing full size hood decal, you might consider having one painted on (in the course of your next paint job, if needed). Better yet, you could make it a full size, yet subtle "ghost bird" in the way that some people do ghost flames on their hot rods.
This is just a suggestion, which i realize would probably be exponentially more expensive than a stick-on hood decal. The upsides are that it wouldn't peel off; it could be a custom design of your own exact expression, it could be subtle if you chose the "ghost graphic" route, and in the end it could appear as something more than a mere throwback to the more popular/recognized 2nd Gen days.

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
Worth Noting : The front of the power bulge 2nd gens are NOT the same as the 3rd gen power bulges. The 2nd gens have a straight angle, and the 3rd gens are curved on the front side.
Also, 2nd gen hood birds (I believe) are too large for 3rd gen hoods.

It would have to be custom for sure because the hoods are different sizes from 2nd to 3rd gens.

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
My advice, get this hood bird. It'll match the design of the 3rd gen birds, and be small enough so it won't be too hard with wrinkles if part of it goes over part of the bulge:

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
I would like to re-open this thread, because it is exactly the same interest for me, that the OP had. mavidays posted the photo of the black and gold 2nd gen, with the turbo-bird decal. I know the hood on that car is a few inches longer, than the 3rd gen hoods. But the widths, (I believe I measured a few yrs back) are the same, or very close.
To modify the 2nd gen turbo bird decal, I "think" if the top of the wing sections, (at the base of the windshield) were cut off where there are "removable" sections, and would be un-noticeable, then the bird would be shorter, and possibly fit. The next concern is the location of the 3rd gen power bulge, and how the birds mouth, and flame would relate to that location. I had gotten the measurements in the past from a 2nd gen turbo car, and think it could work. I'll have-ta try and find the chicken scratching I did on it. I didn't realize this thread was here, and just found it by chance.

Very nice. Custom hand painting is an art not seen too often anymore, in this world of dull and boring colors.

It's painted. Check out this article.

But, it would be cool if someone could figure out how to get this graphic on the third gen hood. Such that the flame from mouth is on the power bulge.

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
Exactly what I've been contemplating...for years now. Because the turbo hoods are the same width, on the 2nd, and 3rd gens, it would work that way. But the length on the 3rd gen is shorter by a few inches, and the "bulge" isn't in the same location, it would be off...somewhat. How bad? Wish I knew. If a few of the flames on the tip of the wings were removed, it would fit length wise, (kinda) also. But where would that put the birds mouth, and flame on the 3rd gen? The sticker is a few hundred bucks, and I don't wanna chance it, (experimenting), just yet. How bout you?

This is the 80 and 81 Turbo Trans Am style hood decal made for the 82 to 92 Firebird. They have it in the 5 shade version and the 2 shade version in multiple colors. They have had it available for many years.

Re: Flaming Chicken hood decal on Power Bulge Hood
The red Trans Am in the picture above has a power bulge hood.
The Phoenix and the flames shooting out of the Phoenix's mouth are 2 separate decals.
This decal is literally designed for the 3rd gen 1982 to 1984 Trans Am and 1987 to 1992 Firebird Formula offset power bulge hood. It also should fit just fine on the plain smooth base Firebird hood. It won't fit the Firebird SE hood with the two vents upfront like a Trans Am/GTA style hood or the Trans Am/GTA style hood with the two vents upfront and two vents on the rear sides of the hood.
This decal is based on the 1980 5 color shade or the 1981 2 color shade Turbo Trans Am offset power bulge "Turbo" hood decal. It's sized correctly to fit the 3rd gen version of the offset power bulge "Turbo" hood.

No, they never did. Maybe I should've checked my spam. I did see a kit listed for 3rd gens, but wanted to know if it was specific to the power bulge hood, or the flat one. I'll send them another and check back.
