How do you compress a door hinge spring?
My car has been missing its drivers door hinge spring since I've bought it, I bought a new spring at advance yesterday that looks like it should work but how the hell do you compress it without suffering fatal injuries? lol

There is a special spring compressor to remove/install those springs. I don't have a link but I did find it doing a internet search. I tried using other means but like you said..Without incurring fatal injuries.

bastards want 11$ to ship a 1lb. package, i'm gonna try to find one locally i guess.
edit: Advance says they rent them for $45, which is steep as hell, but you get your money back when you bring it back.

I got mine at napa.But try advance,and the zone. I think if they dont have them they should be abel to get one.Like said above well,well worth the price.

Advance or AZ do not have them...most of the retards that work there never heard of it...alteast here wher I live..
NAPA carries them...I had to buy one to install my REV KIT springs..
Heres the part number, #770-3818
they are pricey at $21. and some change

i kinda rigged mine when i put in back in after an encounter with a wall a few years ago, i compressed the spring in a bench vise and used re-bar ties to hold it together. when it was back in, i just cut the ties off. i dont think it is the safest way of doing it but i worked for me.

I got my spring compressor from Mac tools. On 4 door S10's and Blazers you can't use the spring compressor on the rear door, so I put one end in and take a big pair of channellocks and squeeze it in there. You can try this if your having a hard time getting a compressor. Just be careful.

Take your spring and compress it in a vice. Then get 4 industrial zip ties, and use them to keep the spring compressed. Put the spring where it needs to be in the door jam, and take a box cuter and cut the zip ties off… IMO its not all that dangerous… and its cheaper then buying a tool that u wont use very often…

hinge spring
took me like 2 hours to figure it out. I compressed it in a bench vise and used a piece of coat hanger through the middle and twisted it together on the outside. it will hold the spring compressed into a curve, and you should be able to pry it into its place. yeah you may still hurt yourself so be careful. cut the coat hanger into pieces with some wire snips, and remove. watch your fingers though its a stiff spring with a lot of tension for these unnecessarily heavy *** doors. they probably make a tool for this for guys at body shops. good luck

I hadn't thought about using a vice to compress it else I would've probably tried that. Here's what I ended up doing:

I got a c-clamp, driled two holes into the opposite ends, tightened the clamp, ran wires through the spring via the holes I drilled, tightened the wires and BAM I was done.
