I just recently purchased a Notchback GTA off a friend of mine. He has had the car for a few years, and about 3 years ago decided to begin taking it apart for a restoration. Well that never happened, he got tired of looking at the car in his garage and I jumped on the opportunity to buy it.

My plan is too finish what he started. I will strip it down the rest of the way, have her completly repainted, fix rust spots, replace anything that is worn, rebuild the motor, tranny, etc, and anything else that needs to be done to have a nice show car. I currently own a '88 GTA which is my street/strip car, now I want a show car. When this project is done I plan on buying a '91 or '92 GTA for my son.

be glad you dont have ttops, then your floors would be ruined, and the ttop channels would be just like your windshield channel. sweet GTA too.

Maybe you know? I guessing the rear is called the Notchback. Was this facotry or a add on. Do you know where to get an aftermarket one?

he says its a notchback in the first post. and I think hawks has aftermarket notchbacks.

Some limited # of firebirds came factory notchbacks. But, you can get them aftermarket as well.

I only paid $2000 Cdn, and with today's strong Canadian dollar that's about $1900 American. It was never listed in any classified's, and we live all the way up here in Eastern Canada, a long way from Florida!

This car is a original factory notchback. They were only produced in 1988, and only had a limited number of 600 + made. Can't remember the exact number right now.

But like everyone has said you can buy the rear lid aftermarket, Hawks sells them.

Wow man.. you got a great deal on that. Even considering the rust and work ahead of you!!! You are definitly taking the right approach. Strip her down, get rid of all that cancer, some nice paint... Gonna be a sweet ride when youre done. Are you painting it original color? Or are you going to do a color change??

Also...I have to say... Your black car... Ugh...that is beautiful. Makes me miss my car I hate keeping black clean, but when it is, I still say its the hottest color on a TA!!

Total number of Notches were 718 according to a letter I saw from GM on a web site. I think it was 624 for the US and the rest went to Canadia.

Nice resto project! I missed an opportunity for a notch some 7 years ago, guy wouldnt sell the car complete because the floor pans were rotted out. I was able to get the hatch and rear seats from him though. At least the whole car didnt go to the crusher.

I would love to see the car finished, keep us updated.

I plan on painting it the original color. I am mulling over a few ideas in my head on what the final appearance will be. I am stuck on the idea of lowering her and running a set of Weld Draglites, 15x5 up front and 15x10 in the back. Give her a nice pro street look that could easily be changed back to stock by simply swapping wheels.

As for my blk GTA, thanks for the compliments! I've owned her for 10 years and I will never part with her. She is in excellent condition, it's been stored the entire time I have owned it and I know for a fact that the previous owner kept her garaged for the 8 years he owned it. I like to call that car my first born! LOL

Thanks for the numbers. I have read about the 718 produced before as well. I am hoping to be able to find out how many were produced for sale in Canada to try and get a number on her. 1 of whatever??

I will keep this post updated as I go along. I plan on doing some work this weekend so I will have new pics then.
