I used a product called R-Blox on my pickup - pretty cheap on ebay. I did the doors and the back of the cab. It went on real easy and things are quieter but I haven't used other products so I can't say how it compares.

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

I have Dynamat on my doors and trunk area. Works very well.

I'll be using second skin on my rear panels and hatch.

diymobileaudio.com did a head to head comparison (sound, heat, elasticity) on all types of sound deadener. Second skin came in 1st and Dynamat placed 2nd. Fatmat and maats placed further down.

Use the basic type of sound deadener. The xtreme/ultimate is not worth the extra $$.

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

i've used dynamat for car audio installations on decently loud systems and it seems to work well, it does block outside noises pretty good. not worth the money though

i always thought about finding thick aluminum foil and grabbing a bucket of roll-on line-x and going to town with them

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

Its all nothing but rubber or closed cell foam with a foil backing, it should not cost any where near what it does. Don't care how well it works, its all a rip.

$28 for 2 10x10in pieces. total rip off.
And why 10x10 insted of 12x12???
They can sell you more.

who sponsored it and was it scantion by all companies???

But its often like when they use products on tv car shows, looks like a tv show but is one long commercial to push a product they are paid in cleaver ways that their opnion changes.

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

Did my roof and was impressed with the changes.
Never had a headlinner in it. Though I did use the chrome duct tape instead.

Just member foil and hot contacts don't go together. Thought id just push the prongs for the doam light through it. Spark spark fizzle and pop goes the fuse.

Also the area right behind the bulb filiment had to be trimmed, it was making the stuff smoke. But only the small area where the bulb filiment was.

Thought of this as I guess they found Ebay and are using a cleaver way to get traffic.

Sell $1 bills for 80cents shipped

Or could be for feedback, I know you need like 15-20 to be able to list more then auctions or something like that.

I have used many products, but favor dynamat. I do like 2nd skin too. One product that I really liked was rockford fosgates sound deadeners. Good cost to value there...

I used Smitty, was impressed with how it stuck to the roof. Expected it to be hanging down on first day in the sun. Only used tap to cover seams.

No more of that talking in a metal shead sound.

if you arent doing a large area (whole trunk, whole interior), i would do what i did. i bought 1/2" by 1/2" hi-density foam weatherstripping from Lowe's (10 foot roll for $3) and put it at all of the intersecting panels on my mustang to prevent the ratteling. 30' for $9, and no more ratteling and clean bass (with 1,400 watts to a 15" L7 tuned to 32hz)

That stuff works good for cowl, hatch or door seals.

I have a new hatch seal now but my doors and cowl are sealed up tight with that peel n stick foam on a roll. Works good. Wipe old seal down with aolchol then just apply right on top.

I used that on the intersection of all of the interior panels together on the inside. ie. top deck to rear interior panels... works great.

Did the outer rear wells too, since they are a source of great noise...

Then used their brush on liquid deadener over that...

(Pic looks purple, but it's flat black...)

Haven't had the car out since doing all that, but just idiling in the driveway it seems much quieter inside... a bit of extra weight, but I got a super charger to install too

Yea weight isn't always good but not always bad.

That Smitty stuff was 2lb for the whole 12ft roll including the carbboard tube.
Though they don't measure well, I got a good 14-15ft on the roll I got. Shhhhhh

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

May als scare someone else who end up with the car. Folks do thing like that to hide rust. Mine was like that, duct tape covered in roof tar to hide the rust I had to fix.

Though I want to do the back inside of mine like that and the a-pilers. To help with noise and heat as Im gonna be putting TA front hood louvers in my
a-pillers for a fresh air vent. 2 windows down just isn't enough. Like the hood install they won't grab air, air will just be sucked out of them on the move.

Friend suggesting getting a new window made for my notchback with a slider window like a truck. But that would be a bit hookey, though cool on some levels for getting air to flow through the car better.

Go to the roofing section of Lowe's, and buy yourself a few rolls of "Peel 'n Seal." It is much cheaper and just as good as Dynamat and all the others.
With those, all you are paying for is the name.

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

I use second skin. I bought the Home depot stuff before and id not like it. Now that I have both it is no comparison, that hardware store brand stuff is JUNK!! It looks like foam, the seconskin is a tar like material, I could tell jsut by putting one pice by each other and knockking on the metal which one worked better.

I dont have the money to spend at all, but I dont want to put junk in my car. So for $323 I got 80sqft of damplifier, and 26sqft of damplifier pro.

You get what you pay for!!

This is a site that did a comparison test of Many if not all sound deadners on the market including the hardware store brands.

http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

Secondskin auto won by a long shot, but is the most expensive. I think RAAmat won the best cost/effectiveness award.

Hard to take test like that searious.

LIke test on who has the best oil. They all can prove how their works best.
And the best just happen to cost the most beyond my wallet.

But for my needs, regular old affordable dino oil n smitty mats works well for my need and wallet.

If youcafford $10sft for a mat material for your car, you probably can afford $70 a quart oil too. Good for you.

Re: Dynamat and other sound heat and vib mats: Compare

When doing a door panel, I put back the factory plastic and stuff and I wasn't sure how I would cut n fit around everything easy so there is so much junk.

Bingo idea, don’t cover the door, cover the backside of the interior door panel.

It’s going to work near the same, but was easy to lay and cut where needed
[ allot more flat], I can also access the inside of the door later easy with out mat to remove. Laid it just on the inside of the plastic pins that hold it on. That way the edge sucks down and hides that its there.

using smittymats.com

I think someone got wise, they raised their prices but a standard roll comes with 14ft not 12ft anymore.

As the 12ft roll I had gotten had a good 14-15ft on it.

Hey Smittys isn't just for cars, I used some left over on a busted water pipe I had to fix. Even in the bitter cold it stuck well.
