Re: HIGH RISE WING GASKETS ???

I would take a look at wings west. I know they sell a aftermarket wing that looks identical. Maybe you can contact them.

Re: HIGH RISE WING GASKETS ???

why do you want to replace it? If the ones I saw were factory correct, they're just a rubber sheet cut slightly smaller than the pedistal with holes in it. Why not reuse what you have? if not, you can buy a rubber sheet and make your own.

i will remove the wing for painting . O.K. , when i re-install it on the car i would like to have new rubber to mount it on . i would prefer not to use 20 yr. old rubber pads . if i have to i will , but i prefer not to . O.K. ? if i have to make them i will , i doubt they would look as good as the factory ones . thats why i am trying to find new ones . understand ? thanks for your comments .

Having new gaskets is fine but, if you don't know how to use a pair of scissors and a utility knife, maybe let someone who can handle sharp pointy objects do it for you.

My A&A wing (when I had a high rise on my 'bird) didn't come with any gaskets. I just used closed foam camper seal tape.

Worked fine.

At the simplest, a rubber washer will work. You're just keeping water from getting through the bolt hole in the deck.

Actually, my problem was your response to the person who offered you an alternative solution.

No one here is obligated to answer your questions. Be thankful someone offered help, even if it isn't the exact answer you wanted.

You've been a member long enough to realize at least that.

Re: HIGH RISE WING GASKETS ???

Uncle Tom,
Judging from your response, I think you saw something in my reply that wasn't there. I wasn't questioning your motives or implying you were doing anything wrong. The reason for my questions was to better understand your situation so that I could try to be more helpful. Receiving those kinds of responses make me not want to bother helping at all.

Re: HIGH RISE WING GASKETS ???

just an up-date , today i removed wing/spoiler . not without problems , had to grind away heads on front outbrd locations of wing hardware to remove wing . as i expected , the gaskets/pads fell into a crumbled mess when i removed wing . ( like an old/stale cookie ) anyway wing/spoiler is in good shape . thanks 91rs5speed , i ordered the new pads from hawks today . for the 2 center posts i still can't find them . if i can't find them i will just seal around bolt holes . anyway this project is a one step at a time to align rear hatch . i want to get a perfect alignment of my hatch/glass before new paint . thanks for your commens/ideas .

Re: HIGH RISE WING GASKETS ???

It's cool. I know that sometimes it's hard to judge someone's attitude when they post on a message board. I've been doing the same thing as you getting a hatch realigned before a paint job, only mine is a firebird with the pedistal spoiler. I've removed one of those high-rise wings before and they can be a real pain when there is rust involved.
