1984 Z28 Steering Column Swap
Does anyone know if there is any steering columns that will fit my 1984 Z28 automatic floor shift. My column is shot and i'd like to replace but having a hard time finding one. I would like to know if there is any other columns besides Camaro/ Trans Am that will fit without a lot of modification.

Re: 1984 Z28 Steering Column Swap
Third gen camaro/firebird will be the only ones with out mods/fab work.
I have a couple of good steering columns.
1984 Z28 non tilt and 1987 firebird tilt columns both has keys, both are in good shape. No steering wheel on either one. The '87 is already removed, the '84 will take me about a week to get too as I have a car in my shop already that I'm stripping down and would need to finish that before I can get the 84 in here.
$130 for non tilt + shipping, $155 + shipping for tilt

Do you know what is involved in changing to a speedometer from a newer z?
I hate that dual needle 85 mph speedo.

Re: 1984 Z28 Steering Column Swap
Stay away from 82-83 columns,.... Those wiper systems are not compatible with other years.
Any 84-88 automatic column is the best match for your car. Be sure to get a replacement column that matches your existing - or expected - options. Meaning; if your car has cruise control, delay wipers, or tilt wheel.
Cruise can be added pretty easy,... but delay wiper control/wiring inside the column is specific to standard or delay wipers. So; If you do not have a delay wiper motor and install a delay column the wipers WILL still work,... if you have a standard wiper and install a delay column the wipers WILL still work - but will "freeze" once multi function switch is moved to a delay setting. ( you can get the delay function working after installing a delay column by simply installing a delay wiper motor in place of the standard motor )
I've got a non-tilt column
I've got a Tilt Column
I've got a Tilt column with a Grant steering wheel hub already installed ( grant wheel too )
If your interested in replacing your column and need more info then just send me a PM and I'll get back to you with a more detailed update. Be sure to list the following info in your message:
ZIP CODE ( for shipping quote )
Tilt or no tilt ?
Delay or no delay ?
Factory steering wheel or Grant ?
auto or stick ? ( I know your auto ! )
Year ? ( I know your an 84 ! )
P.S. Cluster/speedo;
Your best option is to remove and replace JUST the Speedo Head itself with one from later year. If you install a complete cluster from an 86 - 89 Camaro there will be cluster backlighting and E-Brake warning light problems. The Camaro dash cluster wiring changed in 86 so the only "plug-&-Play complete cluster you could use is from an 82-85 Camaro. Just swapping the speedo head itself will not cause any electrical issues.
