I just got the new paint put on, now I want to get the gold rims refurbished I guess (redone). Does anybody have any suggestions of companies that do this. Or maybe take old ones in return for new plus cost? Just curious thanks.

I just did mine myself on my 87' trans am, It depends if your in love with that style of rim or not, getting them refurbished by a company can almost cost just as much as getting new rims. Yours would be really easy to do yourself if you wanted to, just wash them good, sand them (dremmel tool or hand sand), and then paint them with a primer then laqur.

Thanks for the suggestion AFman, I'm in the process of restoring the car to it's factory specs, as much as possible. So it's either refurbished, or replacement, is what I'm looking for. By the way your rim looks good though.

i have bought a lot of refinished IROC wheels, etc from them, i believe you can return your cores and have them refinished

the ones i got back (3-4 sets) have always looked basically new. besides refinish they make sure they are all dimension correct, etc

I would also powder coat them instead of using regular paint. More expensive yet will look a lot better.

My Vote is Powder Coat...
Spend a little extra, they will look great, stay that way for a long time and will be easy to clean.

I got my Turbocast wheels done 10+ years ago.
Just recently took the caps off for new tires (they were on for 10 years!) and had brake dust / grime behind them where I couldn't wipe clean...

A pic after the hubcaps were off... I wiped the center vein with water / towel...



A pic of mild soap, scrubbing with microfiber towel... still not 100% clean, I have big hands... I need to find a small soft brush...but not hard to clean at all...



Again, powder coat lasts... they look as good as they did 10+ years ago when I got them done...

Find someone local, if not, there are a many places to ship them to...

thanks for the suggestions, how much did it ball park figure cost ya to get them done (mjdavis68) and (luvofjaH)? I did get a hold of a company, down in PA that is charging 185.00 a wheel. Curious of comparison, if that is a good price or not? Thanks.

I paid $480 in 2004... it included media blasting, edges polished, clear powder coat...
The stuff they use now a days looks thinner / smoother...

Not so happy with what wheelcollision did for me. Ordered one as a replacement for my IROC Z Convertible and within six months the clearcoat was peeling badly (sent them pics of the peeling) they stated that they would redo them but I would have to to pay the shipping to and from Colorado... $70+ total. They told me the rim was not powdercoated as the factory had done... only clearcoated... $216 for a rim not powdercoated sheesh!

sorry to hear your bad experience. so far i have not had any issue with wheels i have received from them... i have bought from them over the past 5 years 3 camaros worth (12+) of both older and newer IROC style without any issue to date

Oh I guess it was not such a bad experience as not doing what they said they were going to do. When I was ordering the replacement rim I asked about insuring it was powdercoated and verbally they said yes and once I received the rim and it was in use and peeling so quickly. When I called them to report it they asked for pics which I emailed them and they asked what was on the sheet I received which included clearcoat rather than powdercoat and that is where it all broke down. Yes I knew on the warranty that it said I was responsible for shipping yet I was clear about wanting it powdercoated from the start... I could go on and on. Suffice to say I intially went with them rather than a local company since they said they would powder coat the rim and I needed a replacement rim and they had one available when I needed it. I will use a local Colorado Springs or Denver company to get all four of my IROC rims redone during my restoring of the Z. Glad it worked out for you alan91. Great group of cars by the way, Hey I am going to be in the Lehigh Valley area in late Feb early March, where are you located? Maybe some coffee and I can drool over your collection?
