Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

http://lansing.craigslist.org/pts/5522471035.html

Here's another collector car vulture removing our cars. I love having my car become more rare, but not by someone going around buying them up just to part them out for a buck.

To anyone selling your third gen: be careful who comes to buy it.

(Did you see the '82 Pace car in there?)

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

I have talked to him before, he does not usually chop up the road worthy cars, he actually has a nice powder blue T/A he saved. Typically if the repairs cost more than the value, I would think he parts them out. On the flip side of the coin, he is a great source for replacement parts, not wasting away in a junkyard being trashed by some idiot that wants a part hidden behind another part and trashes the first part to get it, ruining it for anyone else that might have needed it. He removes parts very carefully so guys like us can restore them with good parts

If he's paying the asking price that it's being sold for what can you do? Fair is fair, his car. I would rather not see rust and collision free thirdgens parted out though. Guy in the southern chicago suburbs that does the same thing, I have no idea where he got the cars from. Perhaps these guys have a dealers license and pick them up suuuuper cheap at auto auctions.

Part of the problem is if you put a project up for sale there's little to no interest unless your giving it away. This leads to parting since no one out there really wants big projects and it's the only way to move the car and get some money out of it

Yeah, the problem is with unseasoned guys that start to "build" their car and get in over their head and then want to sell it for what they have in it plus what they paid for it! They then realize that they screwed up and no one wants to buy their mistake as a whole so they start parting it out because that's all they're capable of and it's how they'll get the most back.

Some of the guys I know that drive newer sports cars do so because they screwed up an older sports car.

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

I live in mi and have bought parts from John many times. He is quite a nice guy and very knowledgeable. Lots of Good parts at a cheap price. He goes around with his spare time and buys old fbodys to part out, the ones nobody wants ya know... He also has birds from the seventies. Great resource if u ask me. Don't hate.

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

Supply and demand, remember? ...and if they are the supply...then the demand would come from.......wait for it.....yep.

...it's like complaining about puppy mills, and then buying a puppy from a puppy mill.

Seriously, there are MILLIONS of thirdgens. I think we'll be fine.

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

I part third gens- have established a very successful business. Mine are rusted/wrecked beyond repair ones- if parted.
We have also rescued and restored several- working on a factory 88 L98 car.

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

My uncle in law does it. He's been parting third gens since before I knew him; over 15 years now. Some cars I shed a tear over... so savable. But it is what it is. I try and buy up and cheap ones I can to fix them up and flip em! XD

Re: Our Third Gen Cars are getting more rare

There are junkyards dedicated to 1st and 2nd gen Camaro's, so of course there will be some for 3rd and eventually 4th as well.

There's still tons of parts available for the first two generations, so I'm not too worried about finding third gen parts.

As long as he's using cars that are barely savable, then I see it as more of a plus. I don't have space for a parts car, so guys like this can be a life saver.
