I'm intrigued about vented fenders and am considering them as an option to put on my baby. Sickness91Z28 has nice ones...
But I have seen these ones by duraflex and they look amazing!!
I'd like to get them... but... I would really like to know how functional they are. I'd be hesitant to throw on something that didn't do much of anything, but even if they are not functional, I still may be interested, just to have something that sets my car apart and gives it a more aggressive look.
Neither set of vents would be functional without some modifications to the car. The vents Sickness used were from a late 2nd gen Camaro. I've thought about adding them to mine as well, love the look. But to make them functional, you'd have to cut a hole under the top fender rail to open up the engine bay to the vents, and there isn't enough room there IMHO to make it worth the effort. On the 2nd gens, they were open to the engine compartment from the factory, IIRC.
The other ones you posted the pic of look good, but you would have to modify the fender well splash guards to make them functional, and even then, they would only allow airflow from the tire area to escape. Again, not sure how much of a benefit you would see.
Best bet for functional vents would be to modify a set of stock hood louvers as others have done, or fab your own hood louvers.
Well, I agree that the ones by Duraflex wouldn't be the best, even if they did function. However, the 2nd gen vents will actually work perfectly! But yes, there will be some required modification. I ordered a pair of trans am fender vents and am going to do the mods and install them within the next couple weeks. I will post a link to that thread when I do it.
