Felt

OK so got a 1987 Camaro with t tops. I've searched and searched and cannot find anywhere that talks about the felt strips that run in the t top center bar. I assume they are so the top of glass has cusion instead of glass to metal. I started taking mine apart to clean up and replace seals and noticed it was shot as I was cleaning crap off center bar. Does anyone have a part number or link to the felt strips for center bar or a suitable replacement? I was lucky and only had some minor surface rust on one part that started pitting. Going to clean it all up, smooth it with Bondo, paint and re install everything. Thanks in advance.

Re: Felt

Oh and also the channel pieces inside door jam on back are missing. The pieces that the t top weatherstripping clips in. Can't find any replacements for those either.

Re: Felt

There's no felt in the OE ttops. I don't remember seeing felt on C&C ttops either, but then I usually ran away from any car with them, as fast as my legs could carry me.

Re: Felt

I have not seen a T-top car with that felt strip that you are talking about either. I have only seen them with the regular weather stripping. Does yours not use normal weather stripping?

Re: Felt

So in the center bar the weatherstripping just sandwiches glass to the center metal bar? Metal on glass? Mine had deteriorated felt in that channel.

I have the new weatherstripping for the body side. My glass is bare. I saw a parts lookup showing a edge around glass? Is that what you're referring to? I can't find any for that if so.

Re: Felt

No,the top doesn't have a edge, only the front where you latch it, the top should be bare
Show a pic of what you mean.

Re: Felt

Where the glass slides under the center bar there. It's just glass on metal then? Maybe previous owner installed felt to try to stop leaking I don't know. Looked like they used liquid nails as well on part of seal lol. This car was a hack job. Lotsss of things to fix.

Re: Felt

The early glass t-tops, had a thin steel frame around the glass, and the lexan t-tops have a sorta frame on the front and back edges. Certain diagrams might show those details, of course artists renditions are always a bit suspect. Anyway, there shouldn't be anything there except the weatherstripping.
