Needing help figuring which brake up grade is te best for me

I have a 88 formula there's no abs I have a big block in that weights as much as a all iron small block so it's not the extra weight factor pushing around 800 horsepower I'm either thinking the ls1 2 piston or the wildwood drag 4 piston with a 11 inch rotor but I not see that the offer a 6 piston 14 in rotor from a new ss so my question is would that have to much grab and lock up more since I have no abs and send me skidding any ideas all input would b welcome

they are going to have some grab to them, but you should know by now how to drive a car without ABS

As for what to put on it depends on if you are going to run stock wheels or bigger wheels, also what kind of driving you do, how often you drive it etc etc

I'll be driving mostly like I stole it and taking it to road racing events and I'm running z06 rims 18 in the front 19ins in the back so plenty of room And I just don't wanna be flying down a straight away to a turn and lock up

Hmmm, 800hp, 3500lbs, road course, and Wilwood DRAG brakes?????

That is asking for trouble.

If you are serious about doing a road course at some point, the 14" SS setup is the minimum I would do. Your other options don't have enough thermal mass.

They will no be to grabby.

13 or 14" rotor with cooling slots should be good. Get a quality kit and good pads and get rid of the stock proportioning valve. U will need a 4 wheel diskbrake mastercylinder if ur car came with drums. Tee the front brakes, run braided lines at the calipers and put an adjustable proportioning valve in for the rear line at the master cylinder.

My car has a 521 big block ford which is massive and with all aluminum weighs as much as a iron SBC. I have a 13" BAER black label kit which is a vette setup with dual piston PBR calipers made for BAER. Rotors are drilled and slotted with ceramic pads. Rear brakes are stock ford 8.8 disks which are 11.5" and put new drilled/slotted rotors and single piston calipers and organic pads. I have tee'd off the master so the fronts are full pressure all the time and have a SSBC adjustable proportioning valve in for the rear brakes. Stops my big block on a dime! But I dnt auto x.

Auto X would require a large but balanced brakes. I would say if your going with 14" fronts then you will prob want 12-13" rears. 30% of the stopping is still 30%, doesn't mean you can skimp on the rear brakes. if you go too large up front and too small in the back you could have a very unbalanced car under braking.

Re: Needing help figuring which brake up grade is te best for me

You want the ratios of brake torque to be similar to the stock ratios if you want to use a stock proportioning valve.

So if we look at all the stock disc/disc combinations. And compare the brake torque ratio and apply that to the efficient 5th gen SS setup:

10.5" stock front / 10.5" stock DM rears - brake torque ratio f/r = 1.75
Using this prop valve, need a rear brake system with 14.67 of eff brake torque. Using the table below, there is nothing efficient enough to use with those front brakes and this prop valve.

12" 1LE front / 10.5" stock DM rear - brake torque ratio f/r = 1.46 (did this combination ever exist?)
Using this prop valve, need a rear brake system with 17.57 of eff brake torque. Using the table below, there is nothing efficient enough to use with those front brakes and this prop valve.

12" 1LE front / 12" stock PBR rear - brake torque ratio f/r = 1.86
Using this prop valve, need a rear brake system with 13.82 of eff brake torque. Using the table below, the only two options that are "close" are the C6 Z51 or CTS-V / Camaro SS rear setup.

10.5" stock front / 12" stock PBR rear - brake torque ratio f/r = 2.22
Using this prop valve, need a rear brake system with 11.54 of eff brake torque. Using the table below, the only one that is even mildly close is the stock Delco Moraine setup.

Now granted, I was never happy with the stock brake bias of my 10.5" front / 10.5" rear setup. So I think you can smartly use a higher rear bias, as long as you know what you are doing. On the other hand you can also install an adjustable prop valve, which will basically allow you to run any front brakes with any rear brakes. It will require some tuning. You can also compensate by running a different pad compound front to rear. Or if you have wider rear tires than front, all the numbers are invalid.

As far as sizing for auto-x. Auto-x is not terribly hard on brakes. The 14" Brembo setup is way overkill for auto-x and will probably be doing you more harm (weight) than good. For road racing, the 14" Brembos are a good choice. As far as thermal durability, pretty much any rear brake setup will be fine with the proper pad choice.
