Hydroboost Question

Hydroboost Question
For those of you that have installed a hydroboost (hydraboost?) -
Did you have to use a remote power steering pump reservoir so that it could be mounted above the hyrdoboost? It looks like all of the fluid in the hydroboost would drain back down into the reservoir and either leave the hydroboost empty when the pump isn't running or overflow the reservoir.
Thoughts?

Re: Hydroboost Question
There is a bolt in kit but it's really expensive. Can't remember the details you'd have to search. There are a few threads.

Re: Hydroboost Question
I bought a remanufactured unit from Rock Auto ('93 Chevy Astro). You can get everything you need off an Astro in the junkyard. Then it's just making new lines. It can be done relatively inexpensive, but the kits are truly plug-n-play.

Re: Hydroboost Question
Pop the hood of a late-model GM truck.
For reference, I have a 2004 with a 5.3. AFAIK pretty much a basic vanilla truck in that area.
The hydroboost in those works GREAT, but I'm given to understand it has mounting or similar difficulties in our cars. But a quick look is instructive.
It has a traditional-looking old Saginaw PS pump, just like our cars; pressure line goes to HB, then to PS gear; return lines from each meet in a T at the pump return fitting.
The Astro setup AFAIK is virtually identical, except that its mounting and all that, is more friendly to our cars. It's just AHELLUVALOT eeeeeeezier to find a pickup or something to look at, to get an idea what the system will look like.

Re: Hydroboost Question
I know the Astros are a good donor. I wasn't sure but I remember seeing having to cut the stock bracket off the back of the booster and weld it on the hydraboost for it to mount. Wasn't sure of any spacers etc. Fittings and lines is normal as I woukd just use hydraulic lines and steel fittings which will be cheap.
Just don't really want to mess with the mounting but might! Also thr reman units even at autozone are expensive.

Re: Hydroboost Question
Just a quick search on rock auto and auto zone showed the same part for the 93 astro van.
A-1 CARDONE Part # 527251 $138 including the core charge at rock auto.
Now when I look at auto zone their are 2 boosters with different part numbers. This one at auto zone only is 71605 and is $30 more but looks more complete with mounting bracket and master cylinder rod. http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-t...3_814884_4837/ While i know the bracket is all wrong… at least it gives you a point to attach out stock bracket to it for install.
From the pics it shows NO form of mounting to the firewall. Not even sure how you would attach it. ALso doesn't look like it comes with a master cylinder rod to push into the master cylinder? Does the stock 3rd gen master cylinder bolt on?

Re: Hydroboost Question
Depends on the master cylinder diameter. Do some searches. There were a few extensive threads a couple of years ago with loads of pics and descriptions and parts etc. I'll post links if I find them as I'm interested too.

Re: Hydroboost Question
You definately have to cut the stock booster bracket off and reuse it. The kit i used also had a thick spacer adapter that the stock firewall bracket bolts to
Nice kit but expensive
And i just noticed they upped their price about a 100$. Unreal. Dont think its worth that much
