Just get em at AZ or RA or some such.

Not sure about "difference". L & R are the same, quite similar to the fronts except with the addition of parking brake (not sure what an "emergency" brake would be... never seen one) provisions. Same crappy cast-iron Saginaw crap. Butt hay... whatever we have, we're kinda stuck with it, we just gotta do the best we can with it.

Many of the parts store replacements available no not include any of the parking brake 'small parts', but some stores do sell complete 82-88 rear calipers. IIRC they were about $75-80 each the last time I checked.

If you're serious about an upgrade..........

I don't know what you have now, but if your car (an 86) has the factory rear brakes than it's got the original 82-88 iron calipers with a 10 1/2" rotor.

This set-up is from a 2000. Aluminum calipers and a 12" rotor. If your brakes look like this; then you've already got a 98-02 rear brake upgrade.

No; You can't just swap the backing plates and bolt Thirdgen calipers to them. This is a bolt-on set-up with the exception of the parking brake cables...... they will require some custom work or (possibly ? ) the use of late (90-92 ?) Thirdgen cables.

* Pretty sure this upgrade will require 16" wheels minimum. ( IIRC the 15" wheels will not fit 98-02 over 98-02 rear brakes. )

Yes; Upgrading the front brakes will provide you with better stopping power - more than a rear upgrade will. Be prepared / expect to pay big $$ for anything aftermarket or custom built for you,..... because that's all that's available for the front.
