Should i buy it?

Should i buy it?
Hey guys, I just came across a 1991 RS 5.0, 5 speed. 108,000 miles on. He wants 5,000 OBO and I was wondering if I should take it. 5 grand sounded really steep to me but then I looked at the pics. I was wondering what you guy think I should do. Thanks, Josh

Re: Should i buy it?
yeah 5000 grand for a RS is a lot especially with 108,000 miles 3500-4000 depending on how nice it is it looks pretty nice from pics though, but I cant see paying even that when there extremely nice Iroc's, and GTA's for that price

I just bought a 92 RS 305 5 speed with ttops and around 140,000 miles on it for 2,700. Its in really good shape to. So no, I don't think that car is worth 5,000.

Re: Should i buy it?
No way, you can get a very highly modded car for that amount. Value plays out in two ways, originality, and add ons. One or the other to an extreme will add value, but you cant have an in between car that is worth alot.
Since not many owners buy these cars for originality, especially a 91 RS, its way too steep. It should be tagged in and around 2000. Keep looking, these cars are very plentiful.
I saw an 86 trans am online the other day, with a 454, TH400, nirtrous, 4:10 gears, roll cage, and nice gauges. Seemed very clean too, not shiny, but straight and clean. The guy had too many projects, and this one was getting neglected, so he wanted 5k canadian dollars to free up space.
THATS The kind of deals you want for that money. Dont get me wrong, the deal i mentioned above pissed me off too, i would have bought that car already if i didnt have mine. Deals like that are everywhere, but dont always hit you over the head, you gotta look.

Re: Should i buy it?
Wow! It's funny that I managed to come across this thread, as this happens to be my car and I will bet this happens to be the guy that called me today about it. I just had to chime in and plead my case First of all, more pics of the vehicle in question can be seen here:http://new.photos.yahoo.com/jimmyj14...60762328058998 . Only thing different is that gay little air cleaner has since been replaced with a 14" one with a bowtie wingnut. I really did not expect that I would get this sold by posting it on the internet, and here is why: I swear to god this is a true story. About two years ago, I tried posting a 91 Z-28 I had for sale on here, 305, auto, leather, etc, I'm not going to go through and relist everything, but long story short, I wanted 6K for it. I figured I would post it up on here first and I was getting all sorts of 3000-3500 offers and whatnot, so I figured I would put a for sale sign on it and park it some where downtown around here. I was working and figured when I went home for lunch I would pick it up so I could take it to the car wash after work and get it cleaned up and ready to park somewhere, and I'll be damned if some guy came in 20 minutes later and bought the thing for my 6K asking price. No joke! I know if I put it for up sale around here I will get 5K for it. I just gotta say to all the people saying that there are much better deals out there, SHOW ME, I'm looking. And they have to be in the MI, IL IN area. You just do not see too many up here in this condition. And show comparable cars, not no 454 nitrous fed 4:10 geared TA (some people like to have these for daily drivers ya know) let's see some pics of thing, I'll bet it's not nearly as clean as mine. And as for the 140,000 miles RS up there post pics, let's compare. The main reason I want to sell this car is that I don't like the manual trans. I want an auto. I have had four of these and this is the first manual. I have had many other manual cars, and I thought that I would really like a 5 speed thirdgen, but I find it really uncomfortable, maybe it is just the way my legs are but no matter how I put the seat, I have to extend my leg all the way out to push in the clutch, but when it is out, my knee is hitting the steering wheel.

I bought my Iroc for 3800 in excellent condition with only 53,000 miles. You could negotiate from say 3000 and up. No more than 4000 considering it's mileage.

Re: Should i buy it?
He makes a good point about location though. There's an *** for every seat and in that area the bottoms are rusted through on just about all of these cars as everyone drives them on the salt and destroys the undercarriage. If he's asking $5K, that usually implies negotiation isn't out of the question. It just so happens that on here, there are so many third gens that one in that price range seems outrageous because almost everyone on here has one and got it for a good price. In everywhere USA Indiana, Illinois, Michigan there aren't so many in clean running order that haven't been hacked to oblivion. I'm not saying I'd pay that much for it as I live in a state where there are a bunch in pretty clean condition. But there may be a different story. Just my two cents.

Re: Should i buy it?
Well in my opinion, even if you couldn't find a better deal in Indiana, Illinois, or Michigan, you could find one online in another state and have it shipped to your front door and still come out cheaper than 5K. But thats just my opinion, and opinions are like butt holes. Everybody has one, they all stink, and are all full of crap!

Re: Should i buy it?
Hey jimmy, i hope the guy doesnt mind me posting a pic of his car here. Sorry but i got some of the info wrong. It doesnt have nitrous (that was another car), it has a cowl hood, you can see the subframes in the pic, and its not 4:10 gears (also a different car) but it has a 9" rear end. Its got suspension work clearly, and its ratchet shifted, still has the 454, and is relatively clean not as much as urs.
In any case, yes you have an amazingly clean car, and it was probably appraised somewhere near the vecinity of your asking price, but i still stick with what i say. Your likely to sel it for the asking price locally, because locally is a whole another ball game. With the internet, you have the world at your fingertips, and deals are not hard to find. If youre under a time constraint and you need a reliable clean car NOW, yours is a bargain, but for ppl like me, that search and wait for a deal yours is a little out of my range.
You gotta remember, these cars are very very high in population, so you cant quite stick a classic car price tag on it just yet, and expect it to sell like a 70s classic, unless its heavily optioned. Im sorry but thats just the way i see the market. Ofcourse you dont have to agree with me, its just one person's opinion, but i think i have it pretty accurate.
In any case, heres a pic of the car i was talking about in the earlier post. Hes asking $5000 cdn dollars for it.

its just the wrong car for a college student. i love it to death but all it does it look sweet and go fast. its not the best for long trips, gas mileage, reliability, etc like i would like. plus i wanna go stick this time instead of settling for an auto like i did.

Re: Should i buy it?
what is your problem. im trying to sell my car. if they are interested good, otherwise all they have to do is say no or ignore me. youre spending more time bashing me all over that place than anyone should. you have to butt in on every thread that i post my car in and tell the world im desperate to sell it. i havent offered it to anyone looking for anything else. mind your own business and stop trying to mess mine up.

Re: Should i buy it?
5k is a bit high for an rs of that condition but in michigan these cars are hard to find and especially in nice shape. mileage and condition are completely separate and there is no straight answer. this is why i purposely have so many at this point because whenever you do find a thirdgen under 3k it's shot and i mean completely shot to the point they are parts cars.
in michigan 3k is the starting line for a car needing work. the last two cars i sold for 3.5k i bought for two and put at least 1k-1.5k plus a months work into them.
something is only worth what others will pay but in this area if you have a clean and straight car hold out for a reasonalbe price. 5k isn't 8k. with summer right around the corner i'm sure someone will buy it.

I regret paying $4000 for mine in Aug. of '05. Mine had 137K and mechanically is the same. I wouldn't buy it for $5k, but I'd definitely buy it.

there are deals in IL no matter what he say cause i just bought an 88 iroc with lt1 swap, headers, and the like for 4k in east moline IL, brand new paint job and so far the only thing i need to do to it is install shocks and struts. and the thing runs perfect and starts everytime, so just look around
