Re: z28 17K mi WOW

Here she is

Dicription- the car now has only 17,713 miles on it. The entire car is original to the best of my knowledge and runs beautifuly. Even the tires are org along with the belts(they do squeal a little)
now im gona tell whats wrong about the car, this is everything I know. To my knowledge the car only has one spot of rust , this is on the front left side underneath the hood.Their are two small dents on the car wich can easly be removed, and small nicks in the decals. The decals on the hood are just starting to peal wich is no big deal. The inside is mint acept the head liner is just starting to sag, and the seat has three tiny slits and a tiny pull. The floor has some burns from the org owner but the car has no oder anywhere. Their is a small stress crack above the drivers side door. Also there is a really small crack in the widsheild down by the hood. These are minor problems that can easily repaired but I belive orig is the best way to keep the car. I will add more pick if wonted.

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

Put it on eBay, that'll tell you what it's worth. The mileage is cool, but the condition is going to hold the car back from real money.

Thanks, but there's nothing wrong with the condition of this car. You will never see a completely original thirdgen car this nice with your own eyes.

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

orig84, I never said your car wasn't nice ... Quite the contrary. It is rare, low mileage, and the issues it has wouldn't take a fortune to fix. The money will definitely come for 'unbeat' cars like these. It's just a matter of time.

Funny thing about that red interior. That was what convinced me to buy this IROC in the first place. I wasn't crazy about it not having TPI, but the interior convinced me. I just sold the car to a collector in Rhode Island. What sold him on the car? Yep - The interior!

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

You're not bothering me. Remember it was me that jumped into your thread! I'm no expert, but I've been doing this for a couple of decades. Ultra low mileage cars that are original and need nothing are always going to bring premium prices.

Your dilemma is one of 'fixing' versus 'original'. Personally, I think you'll get a higher price for yours if the little things were fixed. That said, you might spend more money fixing them than you'll get in return. Try to sell it as is and see what bites you get.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but $18,000 would be a good price for a sub-10,000 mile Z28 if it were an '85-'92. For whatever reason, the '82-'84 Z28's don't hold as much value unless it's an '82 pace car. I'm sure you could easily get $12,000-$14,000, but the thing that I see holding it back the most is the mere fact that it's not an IROC-Z or a '91 or '92 Z28.

Hey, watch it......

Yep.... mine is red too!!

By the way, nice original Z28. It is always nice to see unmolested examples of muscle, whatever the era. The IROC and TTA were stunning examples also.

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

I know it's going to annoy you, and that isn't my intention ... But honestly, I'll be shocked if the car brings over $9K. The demand for the '84 Z28s just isn't there. Someday maybe ... But not now. But seriously, put it on eBay with the reserve you need to have, and just let it bid up. Saying you want $18K or best offer will just generate low ball offers, and serious buyers won't be interested because they know the car isn't worth that. I'm trying to help set expectations ...

I was thinking pretty much the same thing, I can't see the car bringing in more than $9-10k. Don't get me wrong, it is a sweet car and there's hardly anything wrong with it, but I think you can still get a car with lower miles and better shape for less than $18k.

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

looks like a decent car and all,....but considering the little things you mentioned it needs, i'd venture to say it'd only bring around $8k or so...

and i agree that the 85-89 iroc's seem to bring the most money, next to the 91-92 z28's

I may have missed it, put what is your location? This may help selling the car if others can come look at it. And that Turbo TA is very nice and will bring big money.

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

It's a very nice 1984 Z28. If you can get $18G, go for it!

However, I think $18G is unrealistic. I've had 4 Camaro's. Two 1969's, a 1988 5.7L IROC and a 1984 Z28. That '84 Z had T-Tops, the HO Engine, factory 3:73 gears with the G92 performance axle & a 700R4 trans. I bought that car in 1991 with about 50k miles on the odometer. I think I paid $4,200 or $5,200 for it...I forget...

In any case if you look at kelley blue book www.kbb.com or the actual website insurance companies used for classic cars www.nada.com even the 5.7L IROC-Z's are not worth much. I would expect your 1984 Z28 to fetch $8,500. Check out this 1982 Z28 w/ 33,000 miles for $5,500 http://www.camaros.net/classifieds/s...t=21564&cat=14

The $5,500 asking price for this car indicates a more realistic value for third gens. The third gen's worth the most money are the 1982 Indy Pace Car Z-28 and the 1LE IROC. People that are asking $30G for basic non 1-LE IROC-Z's are crazy! That may sound harsh but as I said look at kelly blue book or nada. Third gen's are not as valuabe 1967-1973 Camaro's and possibly never will be in $$$$$$......

Good Luck Selling!!

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

you only have it insured for 10k? that's not very smart as you couldn't replace that car for 10k if you tried. however with that said it's too bad it's an 84 as if it were a more desireable model that low of mileage would be a huge factor. that's amazing that someone could keep a car like that and barely drive it. good luck with the sale, hope you get a number close to what you are looking for!

Re: z28 17K mi WOW

It that's your lowest price, you better go ahead and clear out space in your garage :-) I can send you info on an '85 IROC with 19K miles in MINT condition that hasn't brought $11K despite being for sale all summer, or an '85 IROC with 21,000 miles that can't get over $9.5K in an eBay auction. The IROC cars are worth more than the pre-IROC cars.

You've got a cool car there, but you have to be realistic about what it's worth. The cardinal rule is that cars aren't worth what you are asking for them or what they are insured for. I had my '01 Viper GTS insured for $75K simply because the premium was about the same as it would have been at $60K, and I live in tornado alley. I'll take that gamble for $18 a month.

Appraisals, asking prices, and insured value are interesting, but the only judge of what a car is worth is what a real buyer will pay for it. And not even what someone says they might pay, but only what someone DOES pay. Anything else is just talk ...
