1992 Camaro B4C1LE For Sale

1992 Chevrolet Camaro B4C-1LE

350 TPI with Automatic Transmission, Artic White, Grey Custom Cloth Interior and 89K Miles. Very nice original car in excellent condition. $11,250

If you’re not familiar with a Camaro B4C-1LE it is a Chevrolet Camaro equipped with a "Special Service" police package, also known as B4C Special Equipment Options. In 1992 these included;

· Oversized front and rear sway bars
· High-output 105 amp alternator
· 1LE, larger four-wheel disc brakes
· Separate engine, power steering and transmission oil coolers
· Heavy duty suspension
· Heavy duty cooling system
· Certified 145 MPH speedometer
· Limited slip rear axel
· 16” Aluminum wheels
· Rear compartment security shade

B4C Camaro's did not come with Z28 badges; they were badged as RS models.
Out of some 70,000 1992 Camaros built, only 589 had the B4C-1LE option and most were used as law enforcement vehicles. To find one that was never put “in service” is a hard thing to find.

More information on B4C’s can be seen at; http://www.vorshlag.com/policecars.php

In addition to the B4C-1LE options this Camaro is a very highly optioned car. It has power steering, power brakes, A/C (converted to 134A), cruise control, tilt wheel, electric mirrors, power door locks, power hatch release, rear window defogger and body side moldings.

The car’s history as best as I’ve been able to trace; the car was built and shipped to Shaheen Chevrolet in Lansing MI in October of 1991 (I have a copy of original invoice). Shaheen Chevrolet specializes in law enforcement vehicles (which makes sense), but unfortunately according to them they do not have any records of the sale of their cars from the 90’s.

It was first titled in June of 1992, in Indiana according to Car Fax, but I had no luck finding this owner. The car was then taken to Florida around September of 1993.

In April of 1994 the car was purchased when it had 11,213 miles on it. I contacted the owner and he kind of remembers the salesman he bought the car from telling him it was a GM Executive’s personal car. Assuming this is true, it might explain how a B4C-1LE was sold to a private individual having never been put “in service”, something that did happen but not too often.

The Florida owner drove the car for several years as his daily driver; I have many receipts from when he owned the car, showing maintenance and repairs he did to the car. He also told me sometime around 1997 the hood was dented. He liked the Z-28 hood better, so he had the dealership order it instead of the original B4C flat hood. Because of the poor factory paint on early 90’s Camaro’s and his desire to have the hood match perfectly he also had the dealer re-paint the car at that time. In about 1998 he was married with kids and the car became a garage queen, only coming out a few times a year. In 2005 his father-in-law was retiring from ownership in his transmission shop. It was decided to re-build the transmission in the car (even though it had no issues) before he retired.

In 2011 he sold the car to a car dealer in Kansas City for his personal collection. The car had 73,971 miles on it. After a short time he decided he had too many cars and needed more room, so he put it up for sale. I bought the car in September of 2011 with 74,187 miles on it. In the last 2 3/4 years we have put only about 15k miles on the car; it currently has 89,299 miles on it.

The car is in excellent original shape inside and out. It does have an older paint job with a few small dings and chips that have been touched up. I’m not saying it needs paint by any means; I just want people to know it’s not a “show quality” paint job. That being said, as you can see from the photos the car looks great! All the glass is good and the bumpers are in great shape. The front bumper and spoiler has a couple cracks, but you would have to really look hard to find them. It also has a couple of chips around the driver’s side headlight bezel.

Because the car has spent most of its life in Florida it has no rust. The battery tray does need some work it doesn’t hold the battery very well and looks like a battery leaked at one time and ate the paint off the tray. The interior is like new with no issues at all other than it could use some new floor mats. The door panels, seats and carpet are all in excellent condition. The headliner was redone in 2011 after we purchased the car, so it’s perfect. The car would benefit from a good engine compartment detailing; I just never seem to find the time to do it. I’m probably making things sound worse than they are; I’m just trying to be as accurate as possible.

Mechanically the car is in great condition and everything works as it should. It starts runs and drives great. I wouldn’t hesitate to get in the car today and drive it anywhere. The air conditioning blows very cold and all the controls work well. Because of the large B4C radiator the car won’t even get hot on a 100 degree day, in traffic with the air on. The engine has never been modified in any way and sounds strong. According to the original Florida owner the car has a newer fuel pump, rear shocks, sway bar bushings, and A/C converted to 134A refrigerant. We have all the receipts for anything we have done to the car. It has a new water pump, starter, heater core, center exhaust pipe and electric window motors. Currently the car has the correct style re-finished 16” wheels on it (with silver trim) and Michelin Pilot Sport tires with about 10,000 miles on them. The wheels are perfect shape and look great. I also have the original wheels (with white trim) with 90% worn out BFG tires that go with the car. They have road rash and pitting on the clearcoat. I also have some of the original parts that have been replaced, along with a couple of service manuals.

The car is 100% original with the following exceptions;
· Z/28 hood currently on car easily changed if you want.
· K&N air filter
· Re-finished wheels, as described above. (Originals included)
· The car has a nice Kenwood stereo w/ mp3 input, new speakers (under the stock speaker grills) and self-powered subwoofer. The dash and speaker locations were not cut or altered in anyway. I also have an original type radio (doesn’t work very well) and the original speakers for the car.
· The Florida owner had an alarm system in the car, it was removed, but a very very small red led light was installed on the console to show it was armed. It is so small most people don’t even see it.
· The car has newer aftermarket tint on side and back windows. It’s not very dark, it’s100% legal in our state and very nice.

I’m 58 years old and have owned many muscle cars over the years and it still amazes me how many people come up to me and tell me “nice car” when I’m out in this car. Car experts always talk about when people get older and more established in life, they want to get the car that was cool when they were in high school. For me it was 1968 and 1969 Camaro’s and I've owned a couple. For people now in their late 30’s and 40’s it was a thirdgen Camaro. These people are beginning to perhaps reach the point in life they can afford the toy they dreamed about in high school. For this reason, I think in the future this car will only go up in value. I’m not saying it will ever be a 50K car, but it will go up in value and unmolested cars with high performance options will always be the ones that command the highest prices.

If you’re a serious buyer and have any questions or would like to see photos of something specific feel free to call or email me. I also have a copy of a clean Car Fax from Nov 2013 I can email to you. The car is located in Kansas City.

Thanks,
Bill
