1989 IROC 5.7 TPI
As of now I am looking to sell to try to recoup what I can to put towards another IROC. I'll try to keep this long story short, and my stomach is in knots typing this. I was particularly looking for an '89 IROC, 5.7 TPI, 16" wheels, T-Tops, etc. Not that easy of a find for me where I live. I found this one 3 hours away. The guy was mostly honest about condition. During the talking on the phone phase I asked if the title was clean and clear and he said it was, so I headed that way. The car wasn't quite up to what he said it was, but I still had no issue purchasing it. The only major issue was that the title never got transferred into his name. Normally I would run from that, but I didn't drag my uncle and papaw 3 hours north to turn around and go home. I got home and went to transfer it. The title was clean, the only problem is that I didn't take Kentucky's "special" paper with me to get signed and notarized. The penalty for that is that you have to pay high book taxes on the car to transfer it instead of the price listed on the title (you would think the title is good enough lol). So I agreed to pay high book and she quoted me $1,000 in taxes on a car that maybe books for $1,500. After regaining consciousness I asked why so high and her reply was that it is a classic car and they have to charge classic car taxes for it. Funny thing was, I bought a '72 SWB c10 for way more than what the IROC was worth and taxes on it was only $72. She refused to let me pay taxes on normal car value, so I took the stupid paper that requires another notarized signature and price to attempt to contact the titles owner and get this worked out. The next day I got put on night shift temporarily and was going to pursue my transfer aspirations as soon as I got back to my normal shift 3 weeks later only to find out my whole folder of documentation for the car was GONE!!! Title, Sheriff's paperwork, receipts and bill of sale was all gone. My wife says she didn't throw it away, but I can put something somewhere and know exactly where it is 10 years later. I have checked my whole property for the documents to continue to come up empty handed. In Kentucky, I have done all I can do to get this car legally in my name and there is nothing further for me to do. I hate to let such a nice car go to waste, but some of you other folks might not have to jump through hoops like we do in Kentucky. Any help even on what to do is much appreciated. I would like to get $1,800 out of it but considering the above I know that is a longshot.

Surely someone in another state can find a way to title this thing? I would hate for it to go to waste.
