Best custom speaker install?Tweeters, kick panels,Window Triangles
Ive been torn between installing some Tweeters, kick panel speakers,or the Mach Audio triangle speakers (Mustangs, other fords/Mercurys). Im leaning more towards the Kick panel speakers, with maybe some built in tweeters>? Such as this:
For those of you that have done a custom speaker mod, which one made the biggest sound difference in your opinion? Im currently running a JVC KD-LH300 headunit running to 2 alpine speakers in the dash, 2 in the pillars,2 Midbass speakers in the pillars, and 2 10 inch subs in the back. But i just want more of a difference in highs and lows which i think tweeters with bass blockers do. Ugh im just torn Haha thanks for your guys's opinions. Thanks

moving the sound stage down and apart makes a huge difference than the dash locations
I got similar to the ones in the pic
you lose a bit of foot space (I have size 12 steel toe boots) and if you get frequent passengers use the heavy metal grills(old school style) as mine get foot marks on them.
I use a 5" and 2 1" per side cant ask for more I use 8" in sides for mid bass they are not in sealed boxes yet, I dont realy want to cut the metal out.
But I am not sure if just a head unit would do the trick... mids and midbass need a band pass filter...
if you get a coaxil speaker they have little caps on them to protect the tweeter
You might can find a good 6" 3 or 4 way coaxial drop 4 of them in and be done
if head unit is 50w look for a 100w speaker.

i'll agree that kicks are your best bet. they are about as equal distance as you can get in a car environment. i did this on my last 3rd gen and i'm going this route myself on my current install
if you are using qlogic enclosures, make sure you beef them up with some fiberglass on the back. they're a bit flimsy out of the box, but look much better than most DIY versions

Kicks are the only way to fly lol.Once you have a pair of kicks..you will never go back to the dash 4x6!
Im torn between using a good 6.5 in my front kicks or downgrading to 5.25 because I went from auto to manual and need foot room. The old 6.5 kicks i made before really centered the staging. throw in a decent pair of 6x9 in the rears and a single ten and the car will be very clean sounding and not rattle every panel loose.
Kicks are very easy to make.just take a lil patience and careful planning of leaving enough airspace for midrange without cramping your feet and also the proper angle.
for the under $50 it might cost in material and time..you cant go wrong.and its a great feeling when other ppl look in the car and ask where you got the from and surprised how good it sounds.

ive been toying with this aswell but more along the lines of 4 way.tweet in the pillars, midtweet and mid in the kicks,8 midsub in the door.problem..they damn expensive, second problem..im way to lazy.i have been driving with no front driver side kick panel since i did my ls1 swap almost 3 months ago as it is haha.would sound killer.
i have done a pair of component speakers per side in the front before but never took pics .2 tweets per kick and the 2 6.5 mids in the door where the door pouch was.kept the same shape as the pouch..built it to kick out away from the door about an inch.cut part of the door skin for air space.dynamatted the inner door skin as well as the outer skin.looked very clean..mid range bass was amzing.theres cars are great for systems and competing for sound quality if built right.

I want to 2nd what 1ADan says about the Qlogics. They do look good better than most DIY jobs. A bigger issue is that they really get in the way of clutching comfortably for those of us with a stick.
If you have an automatic I have a set of Qlogic kicks for 5 1/4" component and tweeter, new in the box with all odds and ends that came with it, never installed. I took the driver's side out of the packaging and quickly realised that they wouldn't work for me.
PM me if you're interested.

Re: Best custom speaker install?Tweeters, kick panels,Window Triangles
Keep it simple, mid and tweet in the kicks.
If you really don't have the space with a 5.25" or 6.5" mid tweet in the kick, then the next best option is the 3 way using a 4" and tweet in the kick, with a 6.5" in the door.
More speakers do NOT equal better sound. Less is more. Less is more.

Dont mean to threadjack, but would 6 1/2 components in the doors work in lieu of kicks?... Camaro with manual windows... so door fittament isnt an issue...

Re: Best custom speaker install?Tweeters, kick panels,Window Triangles
the basic problem with the door is that they are flimsy; cardboard is not rigid enough to give good bass results. you'll have to do some fabbing to strengthen things ups, but now you're also pulling the driver side tweeter closer to you. if you have to fab anyway, may as well do it somewhere that is most beneficial - the kicks.

Personally, I like proper door buildouts. I had q-form kicks and found they protrude too far into the footwell area.
My old buildouts and q-form kicks.

Re: Best custom speaker install?Tweeters, kick panels,Window Triangles
I am leaning towards doing something with the doors as I really dont want to loose any foot space with the kicks... tight enough as is...lol but having an open mind, How much space difference is there between the standard kick panel and the q-logic style?

Yes I agree..less is more lol but some people dont understand how that works.
I like door buildouts too.I dont have the standard door panel that is the flimsy carboard and **** carpet combo lol.I have the newer Gta style door panel so I may do a component set where the map pockets are on the doors since I never use them..and it takes away from the clean vinyl look.I have to do something soon...Im missing the front driver speaker really sets things off.
