How to tap power from battery for amp
How do you guys (not those with crazy sound systems, relocated batteries, dual batteries, etc) tap power from your stock located battery for your amp?
I used to have a connector sandwiched between the cable and the battery but that didn't work so well. I haven't driven my IROC in years, but it will receive some lovin' over the winter. I have a new positive battery cable to install and I want to hook my amp up better.

When using that, do you cut the existing end off of the stock positive cable and put on an open eyelet terminal?

To elaborate..
No,if using the factory battery cable, I generally cut a little of the insulation off the eyelet so the extender can sit flush against it. the side of the extender witht he text stamped in it goes through the factory eyelet and screws into the battery. the other side has a nut (or bolt, depending on what model you get) that you can attach your 4ga power lead that goes to the trunk.

The thingy pictured.
Or if you have a dual post you can run the car on the side post and amp on the top post, or the other way around if you converted the car to top post.

I need to get some pictures to help this thread, but the new battery cable that I bought has a bolt in it, that will go into the positive side of the (side mount only) battery.
Should I remove that bolt and put the extender in the new cable?

Thanks. I'll take a look at the new cable to see how to remove that bolt.....in a few days I guess. Got to get through the next few days of Christmas activities.

My last setup used the battery cables and bolt from an olds 88 or 98. They are side terminal with two connectors stacked with the bolt running through them both. Maybe they're available that way in parts stores, I havent checked.

I use a battery with side and top terminals, then just used the top positve for my amp, plus it makes giving a jump real easy.

Re: How to tap power from battery for amp
That side post extender is what I use on my c2500. I bought gold plated ones (still fairly cheap) and have an amp and winch wiring hooked up to them. I did require a longer one because of the factory double cable on one side. I have found that mine have on occassion loosened up some.
