New head unit to long

I just bought a kenwood head unit and got it all wired up and went to put it in and it is about a half inch to long. It looks like it is hitting some heating ducts. I don't want to cut them so is there like a adapter kit that moves the radio forward at all?

Re: New head unit to long

I have a firebird...but have dealt with it in two ways. On my car, there was no duct, but a bracket that the stock radio pegged into. So i cut it. Before I did that, I was using an install kit that installed the radio maybe an inch forward. Not sure if that kit is still available.

Check to make sure its actually a duct and not just part of the framework of the radio pod. If it isnt a duct, you can probably notch it out, a little at a time, until the radio slides right in.

So i ended up just messing with it and found a way that would work. It is really just moved forward and sticks out about a half of an inch.

Yep, from what I recall there is a plastic duct that's in the way. It is possible to modify the duct if you felt like going through the extra work.

There are some pictures of that duct in my cars thread (in my signature). I had that radio pod all apart making repairs.

I just cut the area between the two ducts on both my birds! Flush mount both radios.
