Looking to install aftermarket stereo in 91' GTA

The car currently has the stock stereo in it right now. I do not want to hack into the original harness if I don't have to.

For the time being I'm looking at a regular aftermarket head unit with a navigation double din in the future.

any help you guys can give would be appreciated. I am also going to upgrade the speakers in the stock locations. any recommended brands for the 4*6 and the 6*9's?

Re: Looking to install aftermarket stereo in 91' GTA

You can get speaker adapters just like a radio adapter. For the dash, go to a 4" round speaker, they make a 4x6 to 4" adapter or you can fab your own. My system consist of a jvc headunit, alpine 5 channel amp, cdt audio 4" in the dash, cdt 6x9's, and a cdt audio single 10. I went with jvc for their android compatibility. I don't know what phone you have. But if it is android, check to make sure the deck will interface with it.

Here's a review...

...and a bad review because it can take up to 8 weeks to receive your order I guess.

If you buy from Crutchfield you get the install stuff for free, like the adapter harness and the head unit install kit

You also pay 25-50% higher than other retailers. They're nothing but a rip-off.

Also check out the humount. I did this with a pop-out dvd/gps instead of modifying my radio bezel.

I've used Crutchfield on a few occasions. They might be a bit higher on some items, but you cannot beat their customer service. Not to mention they back up their products unlike cheaper sources online or eBay. Also, all those adapters and harnesses that you get for free help even out the cost.

Golieforlife

I am researching this myself. I first placed an order with DoubleDinmods.com. Dennis is a great guy, been talking with him about this install. you can reach him at dennis@doubledmods.com. The lead time IS 8 weeks, that is the only bad part.

I have my eyes on a radio on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/331875096088

This will fit the pod but you will need to do some cutting. I ordered an additional used mod from eBay so I would not cut up my original. I also already have a slightly different Android Chinese stereo from eBay for my Grand Am. I test fit it into my additional pod and it slides right in, just the depth you have to watch. 165 to 170mm long tops if you want flush mount.

EBay is where I got the harness factory end in female to attach the new radio harness. Just look up your car year and make on ebay an search for radio harness. Again I did this for my 2005 Grand Am got the harness, and in its case specifically, steering wheel control adaptor and chime unit.

Hope this helps!

Re: Looking to install aftermarket stereo in 91' GTA

I have the harness installed and i currently have my old walmart dual head unit in right now. I may be buying this head unit.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/351713134730?...&sojTags=bu=bu

I may stick with the single din for convenience as I will put the orignial stereo back in for car shows. I just ordered these speakers

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/131727394047?...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I will review these speakers when they arrive and post it here.
