new 5.3L w/ carb intake
does anyone know what intake it would need to put a carb on a newer 5.3L out of a newer GM truck? would the GM Performance Parts LT1/ Gen 2 4bbl intake work or would it be a diff. one......anyone know power levels of this?

The 5.3 truck motor is based off the LS1...nothing from previous motors will work on it...maybe the intake bolts will work though..
Edelbrock makes a kit for the LS1..it includes the intake MSD LS1 specifc ignition box and the harness to fire the distributorless ignition

5.3 is LS1 based? I dunno about that.... cuz people use Vortec heads off those motors on Gen 1 SBC engine dont they?
I thought the 5.3 was just a stroked 305.

I have the 5.3 in my 2000 half ton truck and it is LS based. It is listed at 285hp.

I have been waiting for someone to use that carb setup on an LS motor. I think it will rock. I have also heard of people putting the heads from 5.3L onto the 6.0 block (I think its those two), supposedly gives a nice compression boost. Cant wait for someone to build a LS-based Frankenstein.

I saw the intake/msd ignition setup in paceparts' magazine. Looks interesting...and would definetly make the swap easier. However its probably expensive....there was no price yet.

i think popular hotrodding was the rag whos done it already...they tested an LS1 motor with the truck intake, LS1 intake, LS6 intake, the FAST intake and the carbed intake.....all were done on a stock motor and the carb intake was down 4 ponies at most to the fast intake...and up as much as 20 ft pounds down low
just an FYI...the 5.3 truck intake actually flows more then the LS1 intake

Nice, I have thought alot about doing that for my next engine. I called around the local yards, and if you dont want the computer, trans, or harness, just the complete ready to install engine, they only run about 550-750. add 800 for the edelbrock setup, some various odds and ends, and I think there is a good budget go fast motor.
