carb bogs after throttle

i have a 1986 transam with the quadrajet, i just resntly put on a open filiment k&n filter on it and now when i put more then half throttle it bogs down pretty bad. i just got the car last week and never owned a quadrajet before so i have no clue where to start. does anyone know what could be the problem?

First things first, remove your air cleaner, and touch the seconary air valves with your finger, do they fall open and stay open, or do they spring back with some force?
May need to adjust secondary tension.

Think the open element is blocking the movement of the secondaries perhaps?

I've allready ajusted the AV according to the tech article and it got rid of some of the bog, and no the open air filiment isnt blocking them. I also just put in a new fuel filter and ran some carb cleaner throught it, but it still bogs down. I dont want to tighten the AV spring any more because im getting close to that one turn limit the tech article as talking about.

What rods and hanger are in there? If you've got any other upgrades on the car, it might be leaning out on the secondaries by now. Maybe try an earlier(alphabetically) hanger, or thinner rods.

its got the stock rods and hanger in there, and the only other thing done is a flowmaster catback. ill run down and pick up some new rods and hangers i guess.

The air cleaner lid may be interferring with some sort of mechanism, such as choke or AV.

no pontiac 305 existed. You have a chevy 305.

That kit is for a non-cc q-jet. The secondary rods and hangers will work, but the rest you can't use (unless you've swapped to a non-cc setup...)

Just buy the kit of hangers, and secondary rods.

Something like
350-1960

and maybe 350-1951

Edelbrock only makes a few sets of secondary rods, 350-1950 to 350-1954
I don't know how they compare to the common junkyard ones I usually snag (DR etc). Check on the main page of TGO for a comparison of Q-jet secondary rods.

I'd want to know what you have on the car first, before ordering these anyway. If it's got the stock L69 parts, it's probably F / DR - which should be fine.

oh, did it get better when changing the air valve tension? That's a good sign that you just need to tweak the secondary rods/hanger. If not, then it's something else, like fuel supply, etc.

'86 L69? If so, you have one of 74 cars ever made (and I believe they were all Camaros, but not sure about that).

What's the 8th character of your VIN? Or, is this an LG4 to L69 "conversion"?

It's highly suspecious that this all came up when you put on a K&N air cleaner. Why did you do that? The L69 air cleaner is superior to any open element (and I have absolutely no love lost for K&N).

Me thinks you have an LG4.

well the 8th digit is h um i put on the k&n filter cuz the old one was missing some pieces.

it says that only 26 transams where made with the l69 h.o. engine but they stoped making then due to a fuel boiling problem

And the problem appeared when you switched air cleaners?
