surging at idle

surging at idle
new carbed big block chevy fired it for the first time idled just fine went out next day to start it and let it run for a while and was surging real bad at idle goes away at about 1500 rpm cant find any vaccume leaks timing is about 18 degres at idle i am at a loss anybody have any ideas thanks alot Bill

What carb are you using?
Any details on the engine, like big cam, big heads, high-RPM intake, etc.?
Is fuel pressure steady? Floats set correctly?

its a 468 , hyd cam 234/244 at.050 .553/.578 ,procomp 320 rectangle ports ,single plane intake 850 holley fuel pressure is rock solid at 6psi floats are right i bought as acrate motor the last motor like this the guy built dynoed at 542 hp 557 tq thanks for the help iam going nuts and want to take it to the track but i wont till everything is right or real close

What distributor, and are you using vacuum advance? If so, where do you have it hooked up?
