Re: Installing Edelbrock 1406 to stock 305 manifold on Trans Am?
Well an edelbrock will not give you either of those over a properly running stock system. But an edelbrock carb system should only need a vac line for the new distributor. The stock carb system is not holding back the engines power.

You need PCV, dist. vac advance, trans mod valve if th-350 or 400 transmission, power brake booster vac line.
Put your PCV hose to front center of carb.
dist. vac advance to one of the small front ports. Which one (left or right) depends on if you need ported or full vac for your advance
When I had power brakes I ran it to the back center of carb
Then put my trans mod vac line to the port on the rear pass side intake runner right behind carb.

Power brake booster, PCV (handy if you want to keep oil off the valve covers in a street-driven application) and vacuum advance on the distributor (you need an earlier non-computer-controlled distributor- HEI being the most common- to go with your non-computer-controlled carb).
If you want your HVAC controls to still work, you need to patch that vacuum line into a full manifold vacuum source as well.
That's about it. Pretty bare bones, but it works just fine.
