Re: 87 lg4 car has in tank pump?
read somewhere its by the brake booster. If I remember right theres 2 or 3 relays there mounted on the same bracket. which one for the fuel pump i dont know.
I did the same as you and took out the computer and rewired the entire harness. I took out all those relays on my car to clean up the engine bay. My harness was so hacked up anyway by PO that it probably wouldn't work any way. In the process now of taking my fuel tank out and and rewiring it to a toggle switch and universal relay. And probably replace the whole sending unit because I think mine is rusted out. Find out when I get around to dropping the tank

Re: 87 lg4 car has in tank pump?
i have an 87 LG4 4bbl and i didnt believe there was an electric pump in there until i pulled the thing out and saw it with my own eyes. I didnt drop the tank, i just cut a hole and got it out that way. The filter sock was solid, the pump was dead and the little piece of hose was no longer connecting the pump to the fuel line.
I never did find the relay or fuse for it. when i replaced it i noticed that it wouldnt prime however would function with oil pressure while the car was running. i just hooked up a momentary switch for priming it.
sadly now i have to keep changing filters as the pump has been picking up all the crap from the bottom of the tank thats settled there over 30 years

Re: 87 lg4 car has in tank pump?
Interesting. I knew the '87s had the in-tank, but I've never personally seen one, or know where the relay was located.
My '86 SC donor car had the little blower in the fender by the battery, with a flexible duct that blew air onto the front of the carb when shut off, but it used a thermal switch in the heater return line by the water pump. I transferred all that stuff over when I put the engine into my '82 Berlinetta, including that relay by the battery. I never traced all that stuff down, I assumed it was for the radiator fan. But I found out the radiator fan relay was up by the brake booster.
I had heard the factory had a dealer-installed "vapor lock kit" that included the blower and an in-tank electric pump, but I learned that after I had the donor car hauled away, and I never dropped the tank on it (it was rear ended - hard). I often wondered it if had the in-tank pump, too; now you have me wondering again. When I pulled the wiring harness from the car to prepare for the LS swap, I still didn't figure out what that relay by the battery was for.
