it is just a stock 305 HO (L69). i'm looking to just pick up a few more hp. i plan on putting exhaust headers, high flow cat, and a hooker cat back. in the very, very far future (i mean very far future) i plan on dropping a small block 400ci chevy engine.

I guess the next question I should ask is are you going to keep it emissions legal or not?Are you planning to go with a non CC carb(Holley,Demon, etc) or do you want to stay with a cc setup(factory qjet)?

You won't really pick up much power, if any, by switching carbs on a stock motor. You'll get better results getting headers, and a good catback. The stock L-69 manifold is pretty good as is. It is very similar to an Edelbrock Performer. I noticed zero change switching from stock to the Performer on my 355. As far as your carb goes, the CC Q-jet is good for a lot more than 190 hp. Get DR rods and a G hanger for it. I am currently running about 380 hp through my stock Q-jet and distributor with no problems. If you really want to tear into your motor, swap cams, to something like the Comp Cams XE-262. Hope this helps.
