I HAVE TWO 1991 TA CONVERTIBLES BOTH WITH 5 SPEEDS. ONE IS RED WITH BLACK INTERIOR AND THE OTHER IS GREEN WITH TAN INTERIOR BOTH WITH 100K ON THEM BUT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I KNOW THERE WERE ONLY 555 BUILT THAT YEAR AND I HAVE HEARD THAT 226 WERE 5 SPDS. WHAT DO YOU THINK THEY ARE WORTH? PLEASE HELP. THANKS!

Back in November I saw a '92 TA vert green with tan interior, 5 speed, 80k, w/slight fade of the clear coat on the bumper and looked really good, go for $4200 on e-bay. I thought that was really low.
So, in my very unprofessional opinion, I would add $1k to the $4200 and say they are in the $5,000-$5,500 range.
Again, I must warn you, this is just a guess comeing from watching e-bay on a daily basis for about 9 months. (I bought my vert off of e-bay back in december)

As for the estimates, I'd say you are about right. It is true that these cars are pretty darn rare. In excellent shape, I'd start the bidding on a '91 5 speed TA vert at 6K.
That is my favorite car: '91/'92 GTA or TA Convertible.
Give up the pics Mr. Reading, PA!

It worked out really well. After a few e-mails to the seller, I told him that there was no way I was going to send money for an item I havn't seen. (In addition to monitoring e-bay, I also read the on-line news for several cities I used to live in). I have read too many news stories about e-bay fraud.
He understood my position and we settled on a price. He even cancelled the auction and I flew to Denver and paid for the car less than a week later.
When I bought the car I knew very little about heritage cars. I mainly bought this car for the 5 speed. I have read a few places that people speculate that only 30-40 heritage, z28, vert 5 speeds were made. I even found out that the 2nd owner (the original owners son), is a member of tgo. 'Toplessz' sold the car 4 years ago to make room for a '02 slp camaro. I contacted 'toplessz' and he even shipped me the original stereo which had been sitting in his garage for many years.
Anyway, I've had a lot of time to look over the car and it is in fabulous shape. No surprises.
I have been very please with it.

thanks for your help on this..I am just curious at an estimate..I would imagine that these cars will only increase in value due to their extreme rarity. I will post a picture as soon as my camera charges up.

I really like the color combo! I would have bought your car if it were for sale when I was in the market.
After seeing the car, I would agree with Cadillac that car is worth around $6k.
I think a green car will appeal to the older guys like me (I'm 37). It is more mature, it doesn't scream midlife crisis like my red one does.
One other point I would like to make is, if someone really does their homework, and looks at how much it cost to install a manual trans, they will pay a premium for a 5 speed. I overheard a guy at the local 'cruise in' say the final tab for his keisler t-56 conversion was $4,000.

Buying a keisler kit will cost that but obviously someone doing the research will know that you can pick up a trans/xmember/all the hydraulics/clutch setup in the $1100-2k range. And that's for a t56

Sweet car! I really like those 91/92 drop tops. Talked to the guys at Year One and they feel that the 91/92 birds are about to take off, especially the verts. I have even been noticing the e-bay prices are steadily climbing.

Re: 1991 TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE 5SPD HOW RARE??? HELP!
I have been looking for information on 91 & 92 Trans Am Convertibles. Do you have any production numbers broken down by color or option? Thanks. Any other pics of your Trans Am Conv?

They don't break them down by color.
I went and looked at a 92TA vert 305 TPI 5-speed, black with gold wheels the other week for $1800.
Body was too rough for my taste but it had drum brakes in back. Seems weird.
Someone could have swapped them in though.

I paid $5,600 for mine just over a year ago. It has 119k on the clock and is in excellent shape for a car with that kind of miles. Runs great and I put about 60 miles on it yesterday. Absolutely LOVE this car and wouldn't take less than 10k for it now. I know it's not WORTH that, but I wouldn't take less.

Here in Australia we are green with envy of how much you pay for 3rd Gen verts there, a 91 Trans Am Vert in good condition(not show condition) would sell for around $17k-23k AUD...Exchange rate would make it about $14,500 - 18,800 US.
My 91 Z28 is insured for more than $25k AUD

Re: 1991 TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE 5SPD HOW RARE??? HELP!
Interesting reading.
I have a 91 green gta vert, 5 spd manual, 5.0 litre w/blk leather int & blk top. Body & paint are in pretty good condition but drivers seat is a little rough. I'm gonna sell it and wonder what it might be worth? I'm the original owner & the cars got 208k km. I heard the same that only 104 5 spds were built but i'm curious how many were gta's? Wheels are blk spoke w/WS6 caps? vin # is 1G2FW33F5ML245959
I'll post a foto later.

Re: 1991 TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE 5SPD HOW RARE??? HELP!
There were no 1991 or 1992 factory GTA Convertibles.
Checking your VIN, it is not a GTA. It's a Trans AM. You do not have the Y84 RPO code, which means it's not a GTA:
http://compnine.com/vid.php?vin=1G2FW33F5ML245959
There was approximately 103 1991 Trans Am Convertibles with the LB9 and MM5 (305TPI and 5-speed manual). Approximately 86 of those had WS6 suspension. I say approximately because the public records are not 100% complete for the 1991 model year.

8 = 5.7 tpi
F = 5.0 tpi (my guess is this is what you have) 305 and 5.7 look the same.

Although they are climbing now according to NADA, the buyers still aren't anxious to pay what they are worth yet. Maybe in another 5 years... It's in the lull where the owner knows it's worth more than the buyer wants to pay, but they don't crave it enough to pay fair prices.

Re: 1991 TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE 5SPD HOW RARE??? HELP!
The following are the codes and corresponding production numbers for each exterior color available for the 1991 Trans Am GTAs:
10U -- Exterior Color, White -- 377
41U -- Exterior Color, Black -- 446
45U -- Exterior Color, Medium Green Metallic -- 508
75U -- Exterior Color, Brilliant Red Metallic -- 222
81U -- Exterior Color, Bright Red -- 384
87U -- Exterior Color, Gunmetal Metallic -- 98
The following are the codes and corresponding production numbers for each interior color combination available for the 1991 Trans Am GTAs:
19C -- Trim Combination, Black Cloth -- 105
192 -- Trim Combination, Black Leather -- 414
66C -- Trim Combination, Beechwood Cloth -- 233
662 -- Trim Combination, Beechwood Leather -- 808
82C -- Trim Combination, Medium Dark Grey Cloth -- 219
822 -- Trim Combination, Medium Dark Grey Leather -- 257
-------------------
I can't vouch for it, since GM didn't keep production figures like they did for prior generations. Based on personal observation, green and grey (gunmetal metallic) are the rarer colors of all 3rd gens.
Bright red, black, and white are the most popular colors. Any 91/92 Bird in medium blue is fairly rare also, just like green. Never seen a blue 91/92 TA, so just Firebirds and Formulas must have been offered in that color.

Re: 1991 TRANS AM CONVERTIBLE 5SPD HOW RARE??? HELP!
I have a 1992 T/A 5 speed convertible! I'd say that considering only about 1,300 total (official) 3rd gen Trans Am convertibles were made (1991 & 1992), and only about 200 of those were equipped with a 5 speed, a manual trans 3rd gen T/A convertible is quite rare in my opinion. How many of them are left after 23-24 years? I know I love mine, and I don't think I'll ever sell it either!

There was 14 V6 and 140 V8 Firebird (includes Trans Am) Convertibles in 1991... How many were with the LB9 & L03 I do not know. The information is not presented in that way.

Think I saw a 91 or 92 LB9 5spd Trans Am on CarGurus for like $4995 in FL. I would almost go buy it if I weren't stretched thin at the moment.

I think that's the same one that was up for sale about a year ago down in the St. Petersburg area. IIRC, somebody on here went and looked at it and said that it looks good from a distance, but when you get up close you can see it needs a lot of work.
