That undercoating sure preserved everything nicely. I'm super happy with how it came out. I wanna get a couple lights to shine upward to take some good pictures to really show just how clean it really is.
Thanks man. I know earlier in the thread I said I wasn't gonna do it, but now I'm very happy I did. I think that any prospective buyer would be impressed with the under carriage on it.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I believe that is an accurate statement. When I bought my vert I bought it from a ford dealership 400 miles away. My only request was for underbody pictures. They jerked me around for three weeks I called and told the manager I had never met a dealership so insitant to NOT take my money as theirs. The next morning I had a YouTube video sent to me with the car on a lift and a complete walk around. I told them I'd take it and drove the 400 miles to pick it up and drive it home.... Never looked back and haven't regretted it, but I guess the moral is don't underestimate how important the under carriage is. That is the single reason my vert is in my garage right now.
Good luck on the new car.
Good luck on the new car.
Thanks man, this one is kinda sentimental to me, so I'm sure your right. I need to get the convertible into a new home before I really start trying to much of anything with the SC, other than maybe cleaning and storage preperation type stuff.

My factory cassette radio I got used from another member has been giving fits... Eating my favorite Van Halen tape, the power button sticking causing a battery drain, and stiff volume ****.
I have been keeping my eye out and bugging the guys on the parts section for a working factory radio, well the earlier this week one popped up.
Factory 90-92 Cassette AM/FM radio with the AUX input wired into the unit. I had to buy it!!!

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I haven't posted a pic or updated about this car in a while. For the most part it lived a sheltered winter tucked away and under a cover, but I got it out and snapped a couple fresh pics and finally created a for sale add on AutoTrader.
I found out two weeks ago that my wife and I are having twins this fall.... NO, Not turbos lol. So I really gotta work a little harder on finding this car a new home. I really haven't done much more than a local Craigslist add I update one every couple months. I have enjoyed the car much more than I ever thought that I would. Got some good memories, and pictures of my kiddo and me playing in the car, so I will always have that
Just thought I aught to update you guys that followed me through that crazy year of restoring away. I'll post all my pics in the thread once the car is sold and update a price so anyone else trying to price Z03 Z28 convertibles can at least know where this one went.

FREAKING SCARY!!! LOL! Thanks I appreciate. Twice as much stuff to think about. I need another garage space just to these mega strollers!!!
I was talking with my dad last night about needing to get this car sold, and turns out he may be wanting his first convertible. Kinda a gimme, helping with the news of grand babies, but it might just have a new home

That'll be nice if your Dad buys it, then it'll still be in the family for you to enjoy on occassion!

I just came across this thread today and I must say.... what an amazing transformation!
I gotta try the Barbasol trick after seeing the results on here!
I've been looking for weeks trying to find a good carpet cleaner.

Looks really good Bad. I just read the most of this. Almost bought me another Camaro this week. Interior was thrashed, engine is an LS89? from a 1st gen. Supposedly completely rebuilt from the inside out. I am starting to lean towards not getting it. Price is a little high I think for the shape it's in.

Hell yeah! It was very fun, but I'm hoping now somebody else will enjoy the car.

I got twin babies coming this fall, so I gotta find a new home for this. Never really had a time frame that I would need to sell this by, but I got one now.
I'd love to see an enthusiast end up with this car, and would make a member here a much better deal than my asking price.

I have to give a shout out and some credit to BADNBLK!
I did the Barbasol trick and could not believe the results!!
Before and after pictures of my one rear seat bottom.
The brown spots are rust that has been there at least 3 years and the rest is 23 years of dirt. Also look at the stitching in the center vinyl strip before and after. AMAZING!

Thanks man. I know earlier in the thread I said I wasn't gonna do it, but now I'm very happy I did. I think that any prospective buyer would be impressed with the under carriage on it.

I did it for the experience and the fun of doing a restoration, and yes I had always planned on selling it all while enjoying it. With two babies on the way its more of a need to sell type thing than a kinda want to sell. Keeping a FOR SALE sign in it has kept my wife happy, but now it needs to go.

Do you have the part number for the heater core that you used on this car? I see a lot of variations in how the tubes are oriented for the heater cores that supposedly fit our cars and the one I installed leaked immediately. I'd like to see what you used that seems to have worked well.

unfortunately for us, NO ONE makes the correct heater core for our cars. theyre ALUMINUM and / or plastic. instead of the correct copper/brass. your best bet is to forget all that Chinese crap, they are junk right out of the box, as you have already found out. and try to find a good used correct Harrison core. I got lucky and found a cherry one from a 92 at pull a part for $30. even if you have to have it repaired, you STILL will be miles ahead.

Yeah the more I read into it, the more I realize you're right on this one. I saw that they are $18 locally, so I'll probably just stop by there and see what I find. I know there's an 82 camaro and an 85 trans am at my local pull a part right now, so maybe one of those will have a nice one.

I never had a problem with either of my cars, and I installed a AutoZone cheapest that was available at the time heater core... I hope it helps but its not a hard job at all, so don't be too worried about it.

Well considering you weren't much help in answering the guys question on doing the "right" way, I'm gonna offer up a real world, real conditions, really worked for me answer. The AZ part looks just like the NAPA, Performance Rad, and picture of AC Delco part for almost $8 bucks cheaper. The pipes match the original exactly, although the construction is aluminum, and neither has leaked in the convertible or my 91. I took my $8 to the bank and laughed at the guys that waited a week to order a more expensive part because someone might call them cheap online.

as I said ,im not picking on you ,or anyone who goes the aluminum/plastic route. after all if that's what works for them ,great. I just find it funny . and those who go for a two cent part everytime, all the time .I somehow think they don't care who calls them cheap or anything else

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
Well got a lunch break update...
Got the R12 all re-charged back up. It wasn't empty! Small leak on the high side schrader valve. Put all new valves in and a high side pressure switch for the fan that was being a little flaky... blows 36 degrees!!! Hope I never need it LOL!
Ordered a used underhood mat from FLYNLOW, and installed it. Now its looking great under the hood!
before degreasing
cleaned and install (need to clean the push pins)
Oh and still no top on... my butthole "friend" bailed on me to help. Oh well back to plan A lol!

How did you degrease the hood insulation without it coming apart?

Sorry I missed this. I used a "purple power" type light degreaser, and misted it on. I let it sit in the sun for about 5-10 minutes before using hose pressure to rinse it off. Nothing high pressure to disturb the outer fabric. It worked pretty well. A little spray on tire dressing really helped even out the black color, and has held up almost 3 years.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
So an update... I sold the car. Its currently still sitting under a cover in storage waiting for the shipping truck to come and get it.
I can't lie, this has been an amazing experience for me. I was able to save a rare piece of Camaro history. I hope this thread will live on and continue to help people with the little tricks I figured out along the way. Thanks to all the great members here and the convertible guys that gave me the advise I needed to get this car in show winning condition.
I think its important for other owners to know what my car sold for, so that future sellers and buyers can track the market. My car sold for $11.5k, bought for $2.2K.
I'm sure I'll post up some pics of it being loaded up for its long trip to its new home in Atlanta.

I bought a 4th gen 01 Trans Am to steal the drivetrain out of for the LS swap that is going on in my 91 Z28. The shell has already been sold on that.
