top frame differences??
are there any differences in frames or tops from pre 88 - 89+?
i know the upper seat belts and header trim/latches are different on the later years.
the reason im asking is i want to install my new top. when i bought the car it didnt have a top, just the frame. ive seen a few vids of people replacing their tops but they were 91 and 92s, i have an 88
i had a 92 parts vert and have a few extra pieces for the frame. in case i need them?

Re: top frame differences??
This is from what I understand.
ASC
85-88 were narrower
89 Was made 1" wider or so at the rear,
90-91 Same as 89, BUT with now headliner.
92, same as 90-91, but they changed the mounting point something like going from 2 to 3 bolts or something, or vice-verse
As you mentioned, in 1989 they added the seat belt retractors to the tonneau cover, and in 1992 they moved the retractors to the floor.
There were also some minor differences, but that is what I understand... Never had a chance to really go over it with another car...

Re: top frame differences??
I just picked up a nice frame and top off a 91 vert.I swapped it on my 89 and it seems like its wider. When you put the top down the rear edges around the window rub on the sides of the car and I have to push them in by hand. Also the rear bow doesn't go down properly into the well.I have to push that down as well.Other than that it seems to work ok.I couldn't pass it up for 200 dollars.Top material is in great shape and back window is clear.Just ordered a set of flip rods from Lon (TDS) cause one looks bent so we will see what happens

Re: top frame differences??
I have to push my top down on my 89... I have a later production year 1989, it may have been a mid year change...
From what I have seen there are 2 top sizes when you replace your convertible top. I know the 1986-1988 sees a lot narrower behind the door by just looking at them..
Also keep in mind that 90-92 has the inner headliner, so that may be the difference you are seeing if you left it in.
