Re: Purple Haze!

Great looking car Chaz, you have put some good work in that one and it shows. How many Purple Haze Z28 converts made? Pardon me if you have already shared the production numbers I didn't see them in the thread. Prolly not too many is my guess.

Re: Purple Haze!

I used BDNBLK's trick of repurposing a passenger seat cover for the driver's side. I took the seat as well as a passenger seat cover to a shop. They resectioned a portion of the existing seat cover, the panel on the outside of the right bolsters onto the passenger cover to create a driver's side.

Driver's seat before:

That does look nice and makes a great use of all of the good passenger seats.

Thanks. The other thing for me is that it's an original GM seat cover which matches the passenger side perfectly.

Thanks to 1MeanZ, I was able to locate a near perfect dash pad from a parted car.

I was able to kind of manipulate it and press it back in.

YMMV.

Re: Purple Haze!

As far as the old pad, I think I'm going to use it as a guinea pig, and see if I can repair it. I love that kind of crap.

You are setting yourself up for disappointment. Trust me. Save yourself the heartache and toss it. It will crack again. You will be angry.

Re: Purple Haze!

IMO/FWIW, the vinyl shrinks over time and when it does finally split, the open edges along the crack curl upwards. I'm assuming that every time the vinyl is cut back, it will just curl up again. Anyways, to me, that seems to be the reason they're more difficult to repair without removing the entire top.

The problem I had was, even though the cracks were minor, and I drilled the ends of them to stop them from spreading, the cracks came back. I used a flexible plastic bumper epoxy, retextured, repainted, etc. It looked great. But the cracks came back. I did like Chuck did and found a decent used pad. Hopefully it holds up. I had a lot of time invested into that pad. I still wake up at night screaming when I think about that crack coming back.

Nice OE dash pad is sweet Chazman and is an instant makeover for the car.

Oh. That's a good idea and I would have done the same. Wonder if the cracks are stress related then?

It really is! I can't stop looking at it today!

Next week I'm having the front bumper cover repainted and some other touch ups, and probably look at selling it shortly thereafter, in order to make room for the next one.

When you say you manipulate it, did you use something to persuade it or just force it back? Did it stay or did you use some kinda glue to hold it? I have tried to force mine back and it just won't go. I was thinking of maybe using a 2x4 for leverage.

I can't remember if I used my fingers or a tool, but I didn't use much force.

A 2x4 will definitely apply enough force to get 'er done.

Re: Purple Haze!

Just letting you guys know in advance that I'm having the front bumper cover repainted this week and putting the car on eBay thereafter.

If anyone has any interest in the car before that, please send me a PM.

Thanks.
