1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
My tonneau cover release switch is not working. I tested it with a meter and it shows it open, Does anyone know where to get one? I have searched and can find all the other parts but not the switch.
Thanks

re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
I do not remember when they changed from the center console to the rear tonneau cover... If you have the one on the center console, I believe the switch is the same as the hatch release for the coupes, but the picture is different on the switch itself. You could disassemble the switch and then change the different pieces...
If you have the type on the tonneau itself, then you will just have to try to fix what you have, or find one... not sure where to get one.

re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
Here are two that I have, one is the common console-mount switch from an '87 Z28 vert, the other is a tonneau-mount switch from a 91/92 Firebird. Everything about them is different, from the looks of the face of the switch, to the size and number of connections on the back of the switch. Is the 91/92 switch unlike what you have found in boneyards? It's possible this tonneau-mount switch could have been swapped, never really thought about it before.

The one on the right is not a factory switch. If it came from a 92 camaro it should have yellow print.I believe the firebird had white print.I have a switch from a 92 vert that was tonneau mounted and it's exactly the same as the console switch. They are the same as a coupe hatch release switch just a different grafix.

The one on the right I've never seen before. My 88 uses the same switch as the 92 but has white instead of yellow of course.
And the switch looks identical to a hatch release

Re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
I wish my switch was on the tonneau... it would make life soo much better than pushing the button and pulling up on the tonneau to get it to pop (it is fine with the top down, but when it is up it needs just a little tension to pop...

Re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
Thanks for all your help, I found a switch at a local vert repair shop, he happened to have a working one. I did see one on ebay also. On my 91 it is in the tonneau cover. It looks like the switch pictured with just the 2 large connectors on the back.

Re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
Especially when it appears to be used... New, for a concourse car, maybe, but not for a scratched up used one. To top it off it did not appear to be for a convertible...

Re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
I had the same problem. I went to radio shack and bought a momentary switch that is push button for 5 dollars. It took a little work on the install but it works great and looks good. My car is covered for the winter but I'll take pics if anyone is interested.

Re: 1991 convertible tonneau cover release switch
I agree, a little tuner spray and CRC electronic light lube got mine back working. I just sprayed through the holes / slots in the sides. Just don't break the hold-in tabs. That renders and perfectly good switch almost useless. And that stinks when you have one with a good tonneau graphic.
