Tonneau latch/button not working
Hi TGO, (1992 z28 vert)
I've had my car at the shop for a few weeks for a tranny from 700r4 to t5.
Cleaning the car up from it being in the shop and went to install new seat belts but when I tried to click the tonneau button, there was no click or release. Basically nothing happened. Fuses seem to be okay. Where to start looking? Suggestions?
May respects! Thanks

The tonneau release is based on the hatch release on a hard top. On a hard top, the shifter has to be in park, neutral, or the E-brake pulled to release the hatch. Chances are pretty good that when you removed the auto shifter, you also disabled the circuit.

Re: Tonneau latch/button not working
Drew, I greatly appr ciatebhebtime and feedback. I will be under the car his weekend doing the rear end and will remove the shift panel and see if I can locate the missing connection... but yes, that all makes perfect sense, now to figure out how to make it right. I assuming I will have to wire to the neutral safety switch for the car to know it's in neutral, or find another way to rig it. When I didn't have a hatch button when I first bought this convertible, having owned a 91 ttop and 91 hardtop b4c, it was weird not having a latch there, lol.
Your feedback is tremendous and I couldn't be sane without it, so thank you. I live in San Antonio where it's 65 degrees in the winter so having the top down isn't out of the question.
Blessings and happiest of holiday to you, Drew

Good news. You were exactly correct. I had the safety switch that needed to be reworked a little better. Now when in neutral... the button opens the tonneau.
I hope you have your cape on, you saved the day!

Re: Tonneau latch/button not working
Glad you found the problem. For anyone else.... I found a safety switch in the trunk latch (after I pulled the console apart to get to relays) ... prevents trunk and tonneau lid from opening at same time. Has to be compressed to tell tonneau it's safe to open.
Mine came loose- had to remount. Fixed

Agreed. If your hatch (trunk) guides that are in the track are bad the latch portion won't hit that white switch correctly. The tonneau release switch won't work because it thinks the trunk isn't closed. I sell new aftermarket guides if yours are bad (TDS 101170).

Cool, thanks lonsal, I still haven't rebuilt the headlights on the GTA yet, as soon as I got your rebuild kit, they started working again ....LOL. Kit works great, don't even have to install.
