Anyone ever seen an aftermarkert unit to replace this piece of plastic crap. I am plumbing the car with braided hoses and Earls fittings and would like to find out if there is anything availiable that has threaded provisions (NPT ports)

I happen to have put a brand new r134 system on this car and live in hot and sunny So. Calif.
That is not an option I care for.

You won't notice any difference. I removed mine to clean up the engine bay and when you have the heater in the off position you feel no heat. Early third gens didn't even have the valve from the factory. If not, suit yourself, but I am not aware of any metal valves.

25THRSS is right, removing it causes no adverse effects. You have no heat coming from the vents when it's off and you get heat when you turn it on. Deleting the heater valve just allows coolant to flow through the heater core at all times (I know it sounds bad but it's not, cars have been made that way for years and years from the factory, heater valves are not required). But, it's your decision, not ours, of course .

I have never seen any kind of replacement for a heater valve that isn't plastic and factory designed, but, who knows, they may be out there.

i have a 89 firebird, and i just broke that stupid plastic heater valve, (nice GM) its ugly and its in the way. i have been ready some threads about it but i just want to make sure, i live in new york where is 95 degrees one day and snowing the next, so i want good heat, if i remove the valve will it hurt anything, and if i i bypass it i know that there will be coolant running into the heater core permently, with the heat turned off will i still be getting heat, and what is the best way to bypass it, i currently have a TBI setup, stock. any ideas.

if you are worried about leaving it on all the time go to lowes get a water valve they not as big as stock valve easy to hide that way you can control the water manual the cost about 3.00 to 5.00 dollars i did mine 92 formula it works just fine have not done my 86 yet but if it gives prob i will
