4th gen radiator swappers. *please look*
Hey everyone,
Can any of you that have put a 4th gen radiator in your 3rd gen walk me through how you made it fit correctly? This would be very helpful to me and I would really appreciate it. If can could you also add vivid details and pics.
Thanks,
Jay

I'm putting a LT1 engine in the car so it will make the routing of the hoses easier and cleaner looking.

Unless you use the 4th gen condensor, you can cut off those tabs sticking out for it. Don't cut off the ones for the dual fans.
you'll notice the radiator won't sit in there too well, seems like its too tall. If you look at the bottom of the radiator there is like something that sticks out on the bottom of it. I ended up cutting a hole about 1-1.5" for that to clear. It will make the radiator fit in there lower.
To get the dual fans in, i had to bend or move the power steering line out of the way.
I used a 4th gen radiator shroud(cover) and cut it up until it fit.

this is a pic from underneath the car. Looks like there used to be a hole for the old radiator. I had to move the 4th gen rad over to the passenger side as far as I could to clear the power steering stuff to make the 4th gen fans fit. And you can see my terrible job i did trying cut a hole. I should have just used a bigger drill bit from the bottom but i cut it out from the top. If you get underneath the car, you'll notice where this is.

4th gen rad swap
hey guys,
I just wanted to add what I could on here about the 4th gen rad swap. The 4th gen one had 4 tabs on the side made outa plastic that hooked to the 4th condensor, I just shaved those off. I kept my 3rd gen condenser cause I already installed a trans cooler in the front of it. On the bottom the 2 rubber feet didnt quite line up right so I got 1 in straight and cut the other one so it fit snug and even on the other side. I used the 3rd gen radiator shround and that worked just fine. I decided to upgrade to some good duel aftermarket fans. I bolted those in with hangers and this helped hold rad in also. The 4th gen top rad inlet was alittle bit farther and I had to use a 4th gen hose and it was stretched but fit just fine. I used the 4th gen rad that came with my ls1, 98 model. I also got a pic but its a old one but you can kinda see whats going on in there. Sorry if details are shady but I did swap awhile ago. Overall it was simple should be np for anyone. Also make sure you use the right cap for the rad.
