Does anyone have a correct cooling fan wiring diagram?

Im tired of having my fan connected to the fuse box. So does anyone have a diagram of a 86 IROC Z (single fan) wiring diagram? I tried searching through the search tab but no dice. Thanks guys.

I have the factory manual for for a 90 firebird that includes single and dual fan setups, as well as that garbage Haynes manual. If you still need them, I can scan in a copy when I get home tomorrow.

However, I would reccomend using an aftermarket controller, they are more reliable and eliminate the factory system completely.

What kind of recommendation is that for someone who wants the factory setup to work ?

Okay guys. No arguing. Any advice is good advice as long as the advice is correct. Did that make sense? What do you mean by an after market controller?

Re: Does anyone have a correct cooling fan wiring diagram?

This is some good info deadbird. But I do have one question. On the diagrams that you provided, there is a orange wire that has a FUSIBLE LINK H RUST" to it. One says "TO B+, the other says "FUSIBLE LINK D". So where does this orange fusible link wire go to. I know its connected to the battery since it is always hot, but where does the wire connect so that I can wire it up correctly? Or even better, where is the relay located at in your Thirdgen.?

Re: Does anyone have a correct cooling fan wiring diagram?

I use a Flex-a-Lite fan controller - much better and more reliable than the stock setup. I always had problems with the fan switches not working - I tried GM, cheap autozone, even expensive Hypertech - all went out in under 2 months. I got fed up and got this Flex-a-Lite controller and it's never failed me 3 years now. It's fully adjustable, has provisions for single or dual fans, works with A/C, has options for manual on and manual off switches in the cabin.

Re: Does anyone have a correct cooling fan wiring diagram?

So it doesnt have a temp thing that goes into the block right? You just insert the probe in between the radiator fins. Sounds a bit dangerous. What if the thermostat sticks and your cylinder heads crack? Will the Flex a lite still pick up the rise in temp?

I am using the Painless dual fan control system. It uses a thermostatic probe in the radiator to control an actuation circuit for both cooling fans. I have been using it for almost 3 years now, with no problems, ever. It completely eliminates the factory control system, which in the newer cars is prone to the normal malfunctioning, but eliminates the higher factory fan cut on temps (228* and 238*F depending on the fan).

Have a great year!!

I will apologise to everyone on this board in advance, BUT... Maybe you should read the entire post. I have inserted a copy for your perusal. FIRST, I offered schematics to help restore the constantly malfunctioning factory system, and SECOND gave my personal preference- which has been used in my current car for 3 years, and several before this one.

Have a blessed new year all!!!

So, a system that is now 'acting up' after 17-8 years of continuous service, at a minimum, is constant ?

I understand your opinion based on your circumstances. I've used a Hayden stand alone on the '84 I previously owned that was mech fan. It didn't last 2 years.

I'm not basing my opinion of stand alone controllers on that though.

I understand that. I used a hayden first- it didn't even last 2 weeks.
