How to test a/c system and convert

Hopefully someone can answer this for me. When I turn on the a/c the compressor is not coming on. I pulled the plug on the compressor and tested the prongs and am getting 0V. I made up a jumper and put power to the compressor and it kicks on. It spins freely by hand and when it kicked on it ran smooth with no noises. I've checked the fuse and it is good. I know there are two relays on the firewall, but could someone point me in the right direction on where to check to see where I'm losing power? I need to do a 134 conversion and read that all you need to do is replace the orafice tube, accumulator and have someone pull vacuum to get all the old oils out. Is that correct?

The best thing to try is, have everything connected that would be connected for the ac system. Disconnect the low pressure switch(the one on the accumulator). Jump the 2 wires in the connector and see if the compressor kicks on. If it does, then all you need to do is replace the low pressure switch. Also, make sure that your system is charged. Could be just low on freon. If the system is empty or almost empty, then you need to look for leaks.

Thanks. Didn't even think about it being low. I'll jump the switch and see what happens. I'm sure after 20 years it may be a tad low. Hopefully.

Jumped the low pressure switch and it comes on. For grins I presseed the low pressure fitting on the accumulator and got a faint "pifffffffffff" and then nothing. System is empty. Going to have it charged soon.
