Overheating

Well I am at my whits end here.

I have a new radiator, waterpump. cooler regulated thermostat, every thing flows great. My car still is overheating.

I have a 305 tpi I am about to take the headers into a shop to get it inspected.

Could this be a blown head gasket or cracked head?

The temp rises while driving and sitting in traffic.

The fan works when it is hot like it should.

Re: Overheating

A little more info. What temp is it getting up to? Are you using stock or aftermarket gauge? Have you tried getting a temp using an infrared thermometer and see if it's the same as the gauge? Are you getting back flow into the reservoir tank? Do you have your air dam in place? Do you have coolant in your oil or oil in your coolant?

Re: Overheating

The temp rises after say 200 and climbs won't come down in idle or driving. All units operate propely to cool it during the proces. I am using stock gages. This is my main juge. No infared but my engine guy says its running hot, he builds high performance cars not engines. The air dam is in place shouldn't be over heating while idling even for 2 hours
I will change the oil this weekend and let you know about the fluids.

Re: Overheating

Using an infrared laser temperature gun to determine if the gage is accurate should be first. Your engine guy should have a temp gun. If not just call around, most shops don't charge anything because it only takes them a minute and most are nice enough to do it for free.
These cars are desined to run in the 220 / 230 range, so yes that would be considered hot to any mechanic.
Stock fans don't even come on until reaching those temps.

I installed aftermarket fan switches and a 180 thermostat to keep my car in the 180* to 200* range, and yes I did check it with a temp. gun.
